‘It’s All a Bit Depressing’: Just 13% Think PS5 Is Worth Its New Price

Starting April 2nd, Sony will be raising the price of the PlayStation 5. The least expensive version of the console will then cost $599.99 in the US and £519.99 in the UK.

That’s a significantly higher price than when the console first came out. Although inflation plays a role, it’s different from the trend we’ve seen over the last three decades, where gaming hardware usually gets cheaper over time.

To recap, here are the new prices:

  • PS5: $549.99/£479.99/€549.99 > $649.99/£569.99/€649.99
  • PS5 Digital Edition: $499.99/£429.99/€499.99 > $599.99/£519.99/€599.99
  • PS5 Pro: $749.99/£699.99/€799.99 > $899.99/£789.99/€899.99

We recently asked people who don’t have a PS5 if they would consider buying one at the new price.

Only 13% of the almost 2,000 fans surveyed believe the console will be worth the price when it’s released in 2026.

More than half of respondents (56%) feel the console is too pricey, and another 27% would only buy it if it were discounted.

Lots of people have been rushing to buy a PS5 Pro recently, before the price goes up.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 has had a busy month. It got a big upgrade with the launch of PSSR 2 in early March. However, the price is going up to $899.99 (or £789.99) soon, so many gamers are buying one now before the price increase.
