Channing Tatum’s standalone Gambit movie didn’t happen during his time at 20th Century Fox—and Tatum himself thinks it might have been too mature for release. But now, thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s finally able to play the character. Tatum first appeared as Gambit in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine, and he’ll be back in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday. He’s admitted, though, that perfecting Gambit’s accent for the new Marvel film has been a bit of a challenge.
Channing Tatum recently shared that the directors of the upcoming film *Doomsday*, Joe and Anthony Russo, asked him to tone down his Cajun accent. He explained in an interview with People that they wanted to maintain a focused and intense atmosphere in the movie, and that influenced how much of the accent he could use. He’s been working to find the right balance for his role in the film, which is scheduled to come out in 2026.
As a film buff, I’ve always found it fascinating working with authentic dialects. When I’m down in Lafayette, Louisiana – the heart of Cajun country – you quickly realize ‘Cajun’ isn’t a single thing. There’s an incredible range within the culture. So, I’m constantly figuring out how to portray it accurately on screen. I have to ask myself, ‘Is this line meant to be funny? Can I really play it up for a laugh?’ Or is it crucial to the story? Then I need to be crystal clear, even *with* the accent.
I noticed Gambit’s accent was *really* over-the-top in *Deadpool & Wolverine* – even Deadpool joked that the Minions must have helped him with it! Apparently, they’re dialing that back a bit for *Avengers: Doomsday*, but Channing Tatum said we can still expect Remy LeBeau to have some funny moments. He went on to explain…
There’s a constant balance between humor and drama in their films. The Russo brothers enjoy incorporating comedy, but ultimately, their movies are driven by dramatic storylines.

Fans Loved Channing Tatum’s Gambit In Deadpool 3, But His Take On The Gig Is Surprising
X-Men: Origins’ Taylor Kitsch Made A Rare Comment About Channing Tatum Taking Over As Gambit
I was so thrilled to see Gambit show up in *Avengers: Doomsday*! It’s been confirmed that it’s the same version we loved in *Deadpool & Wolverine*, the one who managed to get out of The Void. Honestly, I’m still a little confused about *exactly* what his role is in *Doomsday*’s story, but I’m holding out hope he’ll survive! We haven’t even heard who else will be in *Avengers: Secret Wars* yet – just Doctor Doom and the new Fantastic Four – so there’s a real chance he might not make it. Still, considering how much everyone loved Channing Tatum as Gambit last year, I really don’t think they’d kill him off. And I have to say, I’m really impressed with how well he’s kept that Cajun accent consistent!
Gambit is confirmed to appear in *Avengers: Doomsday*, alongside other X-Men like Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), and Cyclops (James Marsden). There’s also uncertainty about whether Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool. These mutant heroes will join forces with the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and others to fight Doom, who has become the primary villain of The Multiverse Saga after Jonathan Majors was replaced as Kang the Conqueror.
Although *Avengers: Doomsday* isn’t out until December 18, 2026, you can enjoy Channing Tatum as Gambit again by streaming *Deadpool & Wolverine* on Disney+. Or, you can catch his new movie, *Roofman*, in theaters now.
