Great news for fans! A new One Piece movie is officially in production, as announced by creator Eiichiro Oda. Beyond the movie, One Piece has a lot happening: the anime series will have a significant schedule change in 2026, and the second season of the live-action One Piece series on Netflix is coming next year. Plus, fans can look forward to seeing One Piece return to the big screen very soon!
At Jump Festa 2026 in Japan this weekend, Shueisha highlighted the popular series One Piece and revealed plans for the coming year. Creator Eiichiro Oda announced a new One Piece movie is in development, but hinted that production isn’t going smoothly, saying, “Things aren’t really progressing as planned.”
New One Piece Movie Announced, But With a Catch
During a message to fans at Jump Festa 2026, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda hinted that the new anime film is facing some challenges. He jokingly said he wasn’t even supposed to mention the difficulties, but hoped his comment would motivate the team. Oda assured fans the movie is about a topic they’ll love and asked for their patience, suggesting it won’t be released for a while. Despite the setbacks, a new One Piece movie is still in development.
As a huge One Piece fan, I was so excited to hear Oda announce a new movie! It feels like this will really push Toei Animation to get everything moving – just like Oda hinted at. Now that it’s officially out there, I know everyone is going to be eagerly awaiting news about it. Honestly, we don’t know much about the film yet, so any little update will be amazing!
What Will One Piece’s New Movie Be About?

Talk of a new One Piece movie started in 2024, and now it’s officially happening! If the team has been working on it for that long, the movie will probably feature Luffy’s powerful Gear 5 transformation and events from later in the story. Like previous One Piece films, it will likely have its own separate storyline while still fitting into the main series’ overall narrative.
Predicting the plot of a new One Piece movie is really difficult because the stories can go in any direction. However, each film always delivers exciting, unique moments and scenes that fans wouldn’t see in the main series, which is a benefit of them being original stories.
