It’s official: Battlefield 6 is the best-selling game of 2025, and holy smokes — it had the biggest launch month of any game in the past 3 years, too

Battlefield 6, the newest game in the popular multiplayer shooter series from Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios, quickly became one of the year’s biggest hits after its release last month. It launched with an impressive 750,000 players on Steam and sold 7 million copies in just three days.

After a strong launch, the team behind Battlefield announced it was the year’s best-selling shooter – a confident claim so soon after the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, but accurate as of today. Recent data now shows even better numbers for EA’s new game.

A recent post by Mat Piscatella, a senior director at the research firm Circana, reveals that Battlefield 6 is currently the best-selling shooter of the year and is projected to be the best-selling game of 2025 overall. It’s number one in sales on Xbox and PC, and a close second on PlayStation 5, trailing only NBA 2K26.

What’s particularly impressive is that Battlefield 6 had the biggest launch month of any game in the last three years. The only game that sold faster in its first month was 2022’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Battlefield 6’s sales have often been measured against that title.

Data from Circana shows that the newest Battlefield game is the best-selling title in the series’ history. Before this, Battlefield 1 from 2016 held that record, selling over 5 million copies during its initial week. The latest release, however, has performed even better.

In October, Battlefield 6 performed particularly well, exceeding sales of popular titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Ghost of Yotei, NBA 2K26, The Outer Worlds 2, and Little Nightmares 3. These sales figures combine both physical and digital purchases on platforms including Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and the Nintendo eShop for the Switch 2.

The best-selling games of 2025 include Monster Hunter: Wilds, Borderlands 4, a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Elden Ring Nightreign, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Popular games from 2024, like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Helldivers 2, are also still selling well.

We’ll be watching Circana’s November report closely to see how Battlefield 6 is performing compared to its main competitors, Black Ops 7 and ARC Raiders. While those games could eventually overtake it, I think Battlefield has a strong chance of remaining the best-selling game in the genre.

Battlefield 6 has been successful mainly because it offers satisfying and well-designed shooting mechanics, and it represents a strong return to the qualities that originally made the series popular after a period of decline.

Battlefield 6 has been successful mainly because of its satisfying shooting mechanics and its return to the core elements that made the series popular. Recent games, particularly Battlefield V (2018) and Battlefield 2042 (2021), had struggled to connect with players, with 2042 significantly harming the franchise’s reputation by straying too far from what fans expected.

Battlefield 6 returns to the traditional class system, offering a wide range of weapons and innovative gadgets that give players a strategic advantage. It also features the most extensive and realistic environmental destruction the series has ever seen, across 11 maps and various game modes. A solid single-player campaign is included as well.

In late October, Battlefield Studios launched a free battle royale game called Battlefield REDSEC, designed to compete with Call of Duty: Warzone. While REDSEC hasn’t directly increased game sales, it’s generated significant interest in Battlefield 6, and many players likely tried the full game after playing the free battle royale version.

Want to try Battlefield 6? A free trial will be available next week, from November 25th to December 2nd. During the trial, you’ll have access to three maps and five game modes. Plus, any progress you make – like unlocking weapons and gear – will be saved if you later purchase the full game.

Even though REDSEC didn’t directly lead to any game sales, it generated a lot of buzz for Battlefield 6. Many players probably tried the battle royale mode and then decided to buy the complete game.

To mark the release of the California Resistance update for Battlefield 6, we’re offering a free trial. This update, part of Season 1, introduces the Eastwood map – a beautiful golf resort in Southern California – along with two new weapons and powerful pickups like a minigun and railgun that you can find on maps. There’s also a ton of new cosmetic items and other exciting additions.

Battlefield 6 is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 for $69.99. Right now, you can find the Xbox version for just $60.69 at Loaded – that’s almost $10 off, and a fantastic price if you’re thinking of buying the game.
