Jack Hughes Reacts to Making Olympic Hockey Team With Brother Quinn

The Hughes brothers are preparing for a face off against the world.

Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils always figured his older brother, Quinn Hughes, would make the 2026 US Men’s Olympic Hockey team. So, it wasn’t much of a shock when he found out he’d be joining the Minnesota Wild defenseman on the team.

In a recent interview with TopMob News, Jack explained he wasn’t surprised by the news, calling it an ongoing process. He noted that Quinn was among the first players selected and, given his recent performance, he felt confident he’d be chosen too. He added that receiving official confirmation was a great feeling.

The Hughes family was thrilled with the news that Jack and Quinn will be competing in the 2026 Milano Cortina Games. They were so excited, in fact, that a large group of them is traveling to Italy to support them.

It’s not just Quinn and me who will be there,” she said. “We’ve invited a lot of family and friends—basically, everyone who supported us along the way. We’re so grateful to be able to share this experience with them, and we feel lucky to have such amazing people in our corner.”

Jack has dreamed of this for a long time, and sharing it with Quinn, who is 26, makes it even more special.

I always take Mucinex first when I’m feeling under the weather,” he explained. “As an athlete – especially a hockey player – you need to feel your best, and you can’t let a cold slow you down. That’s why Mucinex is my go-to.

Adding to its appeal, Mucinex donated $20,000 to the USA Hockey Foundation, a cause Jack cares deeply about, to help fund youth hockey programs. This made the product even more popular with consumers.

Otherwise, the truncated NHL season leaves little extra time for ruminating on the pending Games.

He noticed I was spending a lot of time gaming. He said I seemed to be living only for those games, not even thinking about the normal work week. He prefers sticking to his regular schedule and routine.

He explained that he doesn’t often get to play alongside his brother, usually only seeing him a couple of times during the hockey season. Being able to spend two or three weeks together, both competing and playing as teammates, is a dream come true, and doing so at the Olympics makes it even more meaningful.

Jack also has experience playing with family, as his younger brother, Luke Hughes, age 22, is a teammate on the Devils.

Jack definitely prefers playing with his brothers over competing against them. He joked that anyone who says they’d rather play against their siblings is probably not telling the truth.

The Winter Olympics begin on February 6th, but professional hockey player Jack has plenty of NHL games left to play. He relies on Mucinex Kickstart to help him stay focused and perform his best.

He commented, “You’re spending all your time gaming. You aren’t thinking about the weekdays at all—it’s just one game day after another. I prefer sticking to my usual schedule.”

Jack shared that his pre-game routine includes a regular meal of chicken and sweet potatoes, and importantly, getting a good nap beforehand. He says this helps him fully focus and prepare for the game.

When he allows himself to dream about the Olympics, he’s mostly thrilled that his parents, Jim Hughes and Ellen Weinberg-Hughes, will be in the audience.

He spoke fondly of his parents, explaining they made huge sacrifices to raise him and his two brothers. Now, he hopes they can relax and enjoy the rewards of their hard work. With him and his brother Luke achieving success, and the Olympics on the horizon, it’s a really exciting time, and he wants them to feel proud of everything they’ve provided.
