Jack Osbourne Details Dad Ozzy Osbourne’s Final Hours Before Death

Jack Osbourne is looking back at Ozzy Osbourne’s final days.

Though the Black Sabbath singer had been fighting Parkinson’s disease, his son recently explained that his father’s death from a heart attack seven months ago still came as a shock to the family.

Jack said on the March 4th episode of the Hate to Break it to Ya podcast that everyone knew the person was ill, but they didn’t anticipate how rapidly their condition would worsen.

The performer, age 40, said Ozzy seemed to be doing well in the days after his last concert, Back to the Beginning.

He explained that there was nothing unusual about the morning he died. He simply woke up, went about his routine, and ate breakfast, and then he was gone.

Even though Jack Osbourne and his family—including his mother, Sharon, and sister, Kelly—were surprised by Ozzy Osbourne’s death, Jack had sensed his father was getting ready to pass away.

Jack remembered a conversation with Ozzy shortly after his last concert on July 5th. He said he was helping Ozzy get ready for bed when Ozzy looked in the mirror and announced he was going to cut his hair. When Jack asked why, Ozzy explained that he had retired and no longer saw himself as a rock star.

He added, “I think about that, and I’m, like, ‘Yeah, he was done. He was OK with his journey.’”

Meanwhile, Sharon has also shared what she remembers of her final day with Ozzy.

She recounted on a December episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored that he was constantly going to the bathroom all night. She said he woke her up at 4:30 a.m., and she angrily replied that she was already awake because of his restlessness.

“He said, ‘Kiss me,’” she continued. “And then he said, ‘Hug me tight.’”

After learning about Ozzy’s heart attack – which happened shortly after a quick exercise session – Sharon wished she had expressed her love for him more and held him closer. She regretted not showing him enough affection.

Ozzy Osbourne, born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England, in 1948, didn’t do well in school at first. He found his drive and success through his love of music.

In a 2010 interview with The Associated Press, he admitted he didn’t gain much from his time in school. He explained that his dyslexia made learning difficult, and he was often teased by a sister for his inability to read, which he found deeply embarrassing.

He said that discovering The Beatles was hugely influential in his life, and he wasn’t sure what path he would have taken without music. He explained that music was the primary reason he was able to leave his hometown.

In 1968, he started the band Black Sabbath with some friends, taking the name from a horror film. Their first album was a big hit. He married Thelma Riley in 1971, and they had three children: Jessica Osbourne, Louis Osbourne, and Elliot Kingsley.

Ozzy Osbourne performed at Madison Square Garden during his Diary of a Madman tour shortly after the now-famous incident where he bit the head off a bat thrown onstage, mistakenly thinking it was a prop.

In the documentary, Ozzy explained that he initially believed the bat was a rubber toy. He put it in his mouth and bit down, realizing with a shock that it was actually a live animal. He described himself as being a bit of a showman at the time and immediately regretting his impulsive action.

Later that year, he married his manager, Sharon Arden.

I’ve been a huge Ozzy fan for years, and seeing photos like this always gets me excited! It’s a classic shot of him – dark eyeliner perfectly in place, having a quick smoke before hitting the stage in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. It also reminds me that this was around the time he and Sharon welcomed their first child, Aimee, which is such a special part of their story.

Looking back on my 50 years in the spotlight, it’s amazing to see everything I’ve accomplished. It’s been quite a ride, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the experiences and opportunities I’ve had. It really makes you reflect on a life lived fully!

In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, he admitted he was surprised by his success. Reflecting on his past, he said he didn’t know why he’d lived as long as he had, considering his wilder days. He jokingly suggested that maybe a higher power—if one exists—wanted him to continue on.
