Jacob Elordi is euphoric about his Oscars date.
Jacob Elordi, known for his role in Frankenstein, is bringing his mother, Melissa Elordi, as his date to the awards ceremony on March 15th. The event will be hosted by Conan O’Brien, and Elordi is nominated for Best Supporting Actor. This invitation has been in the works for ten years and is finally happening.
You know, family is everything, and I recently shared a sweet commitment I made years ago. I told my mom when I was just fifteen that I’d take her somewhere special one day, and I’m finally making good on that promise! It’s important to me to honor commitments, especially to the people you love. I was talking about it on Jimmy Kimmel Live and it feels great to be able to do this for her.
Jacob mentioned his mom is generally relaxed around celebrities, but there’s one star she’d be incredibly excited to meet.
As he put it, “Yeah, John Travolta [and] I’d probably usher her to the next room.”
Although the 28-year-old’s mother always believed in his success, his father, John Elordi, encouraged him to have a stable career option as a fallback, just in case.
He said his mom always had faith in him. But he also remembered his dad, in a typical dad move, advising him to have a backup plan just in case things didn’t work out.
Jacob was confident he’d eventually be famous for his acting, jokingly telling his father that his backup plan was to win an Oscar.
His parents were the ones who told him he’d been nominated. He’s competing for the award with Delroy Lindo, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Stellan Skarsgård.

I get really anxious normally, so I specifically asked people not to tell me about the nominations as they were being announced. I went to bed and was sound asleep when my mom’s phone rang around 5 a.m. I then heard her coming up the stairs, and when she came into the room, her expression immediately let me know I’d been nominated.
I was so thrilled to hear the news! His mom was there to share the moment, which was wonderful. Even though his dad was all the way back in Australia, he was already planning a huge international celebration – it just shows how proud he is!
Jacob explained that the person knew the nominations were about to be announced, so he chilled a bottle of champagne and stayed up late – until around midnight in Australia – to hear the news. They then celebrated together over the phone when the announcement was made.

Honestly, playing Sensei was the opportunity of a lifetime! Working with Paul and Leo to build his world and tell a story that needed to be told, and doing it on such a huge scale… it was just pure magic, not just as an actor, but as a person and a total movie fanatic.
