Jake Gyllenhaal is known for choosing unique roles, but he’s about to try something new with an upcoming action movie series on Prime Video, marking a departure from his usual career path.
Jake Gyllenhaal has been a successful and adaptable actor for more than thirty years. He’s known for taking on diverse roles and consistently delivering strong performances. Despite his willingness to try new things, there appears to be one guiding principle he’s followed throughout his career.
However, this long-standing pattern was recently disrupted with his confirmed comeback in the popular action series on Prime Video.
Jake Gyllenhaal Has Never Done Full-Fledged Sequels
Jake Gyllenhaal has acted in more than 50 films, but surprisingly, he’s never repeated a role in the same series or franchise. While he briefly appeared in the beginning of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it was just old footage, meaning he hasn’t yet returned to play the same character in a sequel or ongoing series.
Jake Gyllenhaal starred as the lead in the first season of Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent. However, he won’t be returning for season 2, and there are no plans for him to appear in the show again.
Jake Gyllenhaal is known for taking on a wide variety of roles, and he’s even done superhero movies, so it’s surprising he hasn’t become a mainstay in a big franchise. His 2010 film, Prince of Persia, seemed like it could have launched a series of sequels, but plans were canceled because the movie received mixed reviews and didn’t perform particularly well at the box office.
After a long wait, Jake Gyllenhaal is officially coming back for a sequel to Road House, marking a potential turning point in his career.
Road House 2 Will Be Gyllenhaal’s First Major Franchise Sequel
Jake Gyllenhaal is returning as Dalton in a follow-up to the 2024 Road House remake. Ilya Naishuller is directing the new film, with Will Beall writing the screenplay. Filming is expected to wrap up soon, and the movie is currently slated for release in late 2026 or early 2027. Joining Gyllenhaal in the cast are Dave Bautista, Aldis Hodge, Iko Uwais, Leila George, Andrew Bachelor, Peter Sarsgaard, and Rob Delaney.
While Road House isn’t considered one of Jake Gyllenhaal’s most critically acclaimed films, it’s exciting to see him return to a franchise with a sequel, and to see what the future holds for his character.
With a fantastic cast lined up, Road House 2 promises to be a much more ambitious and exciting film than the 2024 remake, giving Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Dalton, a larger and more challenging world to operate in. This could potentially elevate the entire Road House series and improve its reception among critics.
We’re hoping the new Jake Gyllenhaal movie does well enough to allow him to come back for more films in the Prime Video action series.
