James Gunn has been sharing details about the DCU’s plans for Batman, and also mentioned another important character that could be part of this developing shared universe. The co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios recently gave an update on the release date of Batman: The Brave and the Bold (one of the first projects announced by Gunn and Peter Safran), stating he believes it will be released before the end of this decade. However, he’s been keeping some details secret, like telling fans they’ll have to “wait to see” if Damian Wayne will still play a role.
James Gunn does have plans for one character in particular: Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. He confirmed this when a fan asked on Threads if he was considering bringing her into the DCU, replying, “Oh for sure.” This doesn’t guarantee her appearance, but it’s a positive indication that Gunn is actively thinking about how to include Catwoman in the new universe.
Who Could Play Catwoman In The DCU?
As a big DC fan, I’m really excited to hear James Gunn might be bringing Catwoman back to the big screen! She’s such a classic character in the Batman world. We’ve already seen Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time before they officially call her Catwoman. With the news that Robert Pattinson won’t be continuing as Batman in the main DCU – it’ll be an Elseworlds story instead – it looks like we’re getting a whole new Batman *and* a new Catwoman, which is both a little sad and really exciting!
Like with most comic book characters, fans have been suggesting various actors for the role. Ana de Armas was supposedly considered for Catwoman in The Batman and remains a favorite among fans, as does Eiza González. Lately, Adelaide Kane (Reign, Grey’s Anatomy) has been frequently mentioned by fans on sites like X and Reddit. Euphoria’s Alexa Demie has also received a lot of support recently.
They all skillfully portray the character’s contrasting sides – the balance between good and evil, cleverness, alluring appeal, cat-like agility and movement, and the capacity for eccentricity, mirroring Bruce Wayne’s own unusual nature (best exemplified by Michael Keaton’s Batman and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman). De Armas and Gonzalez specifically also possess the necessary skills for the action sequences.
Naturally, a lot hinges on finding the right actor to play Batman in the DCU, because the connection between Batman and Superman will be very important. There’s been a lot of guessing about who it will be, with 1923’s Brandon Sklenar often named as a possibility, but no announcement is expected immediately. However, since James Gunn anticipates this movie being released before 2030, we might get more concrete news as we get closer to the latter half of the decade.
