As a film enthusiast, I’m absolutely thrilled by the impressive streak of victories in the DC Universe! The laughter-filled, action-packed animated series “Creature Commandos” paved the way, receiving rave reviews from both critics and viewers for its blend of humor, action, and deep character development. This was then followed by the massive box office smash hit, “Superman”, which has amassed a staggering $614 million worldwide and is on track to generate an impressive theatrical profit of $125 million for DC Studios. The second season of “Peacemaker” is now building upon this momentum, shaping the narrative of the new universe and elevating its characters as crucial figures in this exciting continuity. To top it all off, even though only half of the season has been released so far, the future looks bright for the 11th Street Kids, with DC Studios head James Gunn confirming plans to further explore two of their most beloved characters!
According to Gunn’s social media post in response to a fan’s question, it appears that both Peacemaker (John Cena) and Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) are set to reappear in some form within the DC Universe. This could indicate plans for a third season of “Peacemaker,” or perhaps larger roles in the upcoming “Waller” TV series. Additionally, it’s possible that they might appear in an upcoming film like “Man of Tomorrow,” the sequel to Superman which Gunn has already written, given Peacemaker’s previous cameo in “Superman.
It’s interesting to point out that in the depiction of the future within the comic book Creature Commandos, both Peacemaker and Vigilante were shown among the deceased, along with notable Justice League members such as Superman and Wonder Woman. This suggests that Gunn might be planning for these two characters to take on a more heroic role, potentially fighting alongside DC’s most distinguished heroes.
After Peacemaker, the DCU Will Keep Expanding
The future for the DC Universe stretches beyond just its quirky characters, with a wide range of interconnected movies and TV shows set to flesh out the new storyline. After the success of Superman, a sequel titled “Man of Tomorrow” is already planned for release on July 9, 2027. This film will delve into a strained partnership between Superman and Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) as they face a greater enemy – one we fervently hope is Brainiac. Prior to that, the DCU will dive deeper into its lore with “Supergirl,” starring Milly Alcock, premiering in theaters on June 26, 2026. This movie will bring to life the celebrated “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” comic series.
DC Studios is equally dedicated to broadening its content range, featuring projects with differing moods and sizes. On September 11, 2026, expect the release of “Clayface”, an R-rated horror movie focusing on the iconic Batman adversary, filled with references to the broader DC Universe. As part of their multi-faceted approach, DC Studios also has several captivating series in the works for HBO. One such series is “Lanterns”, an eight-episode mystery akin to “True Detective” that follows Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). Other projects under development but without specific release dates include films based on “Swamp Thing”, “The Brave and the Bold” featuring Batman, and a new “Wonder Woman” movie.
New episodes of Peacemaker premiere on HBO Max on Thursdays.
