The initial scenes of “Peacemaker” season 2 lack a fresh DC Universe character, and creator James Gunn has offered insights as to why this is. Prior to the release of “Peacemaker” season 2 on August 21, 2025, there was curiosity about how Gunn would integrate the series into the revamped DCU continuity, given that season 1 was deeply rooted in the DC Extended Universe. Interestingly, accomplishing this integration proved straightforward, as the opening episode’s recap segment showcased the Justice Gang from the 2025 “Superman” instead of the Justice League, although one new superhero did not appear.
In the finale of “Superman,” Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan) joined the Justice League after expressing his admiration for their group name and impressing Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion). However, fans were left perplexed when Metamorpho was missing from the full Justice League lineup in “Peacemaker” season 2’s recap. James Gunn clarified this discrepancy on “Threads,” stating that since the “Previously On” section occurs before “Superman,” Metamorpho hadn’t officially joined the team yet.
Why Isn’t Metamorpho in Peacemaker Season 2?

In the comic book series “Superman,” Metamorpho was first depicted as a captive of Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult). To weaken Superman, Luthor compels Metamorpho to transform his hand into Kryptonite in an act of torture while the Man of Steel is incarcerated within Luthor’s extradimensional prison. This was done under duress as Luthor had also kidnapped Metamorpho’s child. However, Superman escapes and rescues the boy, freeing Metamorpho in the process. The unconventional character later assists the Justice League in preventing Boravia from invading Jarhanpur, ultimately earning an invitation to join the team following the finale of “Peacemaker” season 1.
Here’s one way to rephrase the original text: The previous segment didn’t show Metamorpho with Mister Terrific, Superman, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Supergirl because there was a reason for his absence. However, it doesn’t clarify where Metamorpho was during the initial scenes of Peacemaker season 2, when Christopher Smith auditioned to join the Justice Gang. During this scene, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord (the financier of the Justice Gang) were present, but other members were not.
In a more informal way: Metamorpho wasn’t in the Previously On segment with Mister Terrific, Superman, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Supergirl for a reason, but we don’t know where he was during Peacemaker season 2’s opening scenes when Chris Smith tried out to join the Justice Gang. In this scene, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord were there, but others weren’t.
It’s possible that Mister Terrific is secretly training Metamorpho, preparing him for a potential position within the Justice League in upcoming DC Universe projects. Or, it could be that Metamorpho and Mister Terrific are off on some mission where Green Lantern and Hawkgirl aren’t needed. In any case, it’s understandable why Metamorpho wasn’t in “Peacemaker,” but there’s definitely room for him to join the cast soon.
