Trisha Paytas left fans everywhere stunned when she unveiled the unique name she and husband Moses Hacmon chose for their third child – none other than Aquaman, inspired by the beloved DC Comics superhero. Now, James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has shared his thoughts on this unexpected naming decision for the newborn in an interview.
James reacts to Trisha Paytas naming her son Aquaman
During a recent chat, the director of Superman shared that he was aware Trisha Paytas had named her son Aquaman. He voiced some worries about the boy’s school life, saying, “Yes, I did see that. It’s pretty neat! I just hope he manages well in his education.
In his school days, the filmmaker often faced challenges due to his last name, as people frequently confused it with terms like “tommy gun,” “BB gun,” and “raygun.” When asked if the child’s middle name was Gary or another name, he inquired.
During the interview, Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr. from the DC Universe) asked if the kid’s name was indeed Aquaman along with a surname. The interviewer confirmed, saying “Yes, he has two last names.
They openly confessed, “I find it quite impressive, and I don’t try to hide that.” The director of Guardians of the Galaxy questioned, “Isn’t that so?” To which the interviewer responded, “What’s wrong with admitting it?
Gunn pondered whether his schoolmates might nickname Aquaman “AQ.” He had concerns they’d tease him about it, but Grillo and Tim Meadows didn’t find this likely. Grillo reassured him, stating he would do just fine.
Grillo mentioned that if he resides in New York, a city where I was raised, he’d likely excel. ‘He’ll do well,’ Meadows agreed, sharing similar thoughts.
In a recent episode of her Just Trish podcast, dated July 22, 2025, Trisha Paytas announced the name of her third child. As a kid, she was an avid fan of the DC superhero whose name she’s chosen for her newborn.
