James Gunn May Prevent His New Wonder Woman Actress From Possessing 2 Physical Traits (Report)

Recent casting calls from DC Studios have led fans to believe that James Gunn is planning a new Wonder Woman movie. After Gal Gadot starred in two Wonder Woman films, the character was noticeably absent from the initial lineup of projects Gunn announced. Now, DC Studios is moving forward quickly with a Wonder Woman reboot, with a script written by Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira. Fans speculate that Wonder Woman will appear in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film, similar to how Milly Alcock debuted as Supergirl in this summer’s Superman movie before her standalone Supergirl film arrives in 2026.

According to a recent report from Nexus Point News, James Gunn’s upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, is searching for an actress to play a new female hero. The character is described as being in her late twenties and possessing a strong, assertive personality.

The call for actresses who are taller to play the lead role – a warrior with a strong build – has sparked rumors that James Gunn might be casting for a Wonder Woman-like character in his upcoming 2027 film.

So far, there’s no indication Wonder Woman will appear in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow film. Although the description fits her well, Nexus Point News suggests other characters like Big Barda, Starfire, or Black Canary could also be possibilities.

Casting would prioritize actresses who are tall and have athletic builds, avoiding those of average or shorter height and slight build.

The ideal actress should be in her late 20s – a bit younger than the actors already cast, who are 31 and 32 – and capable of portraying a strong, fierce character.

Earlier this year, James Gunn discussed the search for a new Wonder Woman, stating that an actress’s height isn’t the biggest concern when replacing Gal Gadot in the DC Universe.

I wasn’t focused on Wonder Woman’s height during casting. That was my point before, and I still stand by it. I wasn’t saying I disliked the idea of her being taller than Superman, just that it wasn’t the most crucial thing I was looking for in an actress.

James Gunn clarified that height won’t be the most important thing when choosing the actress to play Wonder Woman. He also dismissed the idea that she needs to be taller than Batman or Superman, as she’s sometimes depicted in comic books. Gunn jokingly wondered where he’d find a skilled actress who is 6’5” tall, like Superman actor David Corenswet.

James Gunn, who’s in charge of the DC Universe, stated on Threads in July that they haven’t begun casting for Wonder Woman, and won’t even consider it until a script is completed. That script could be the Wonder Woman reboot being written by Ana Nogueira, but it could also be the Man of Tomorrow project, which Gunn didn’t finish a first draft of until September.

Why Would Wonder Woman Appear in Superman 2?

Now that Brainiac has been confirmed as the villain in Man of Tomorrow, things are starting to move quickly on the 2027 movie. We can probably expect announcements about who will play Brainiac and a mysterious new female character in the next few months, before filming starts in April 2026.

I’m really excited by the hints that Wonder Woman will appear in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow! It just makes so much sense – Brainiac is shaping up to be a threat to the entire world, and that absolutely includes the home of the Amazons, Themyscira. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!

DC Studios is moving quickly with plans for a new Wonder Woman movie, and it’s likely to come out in 2028, following Man of Tomorrow and The Batman: Part 2. James Gunn might consider including Wonder Woman in a smaller role in one of his other films beforehand, giving him a chance to help select the actress who will eventually become the main star of the character in the DC Universe.

Introducing Wonder Woman in his upcoming Superman movie could be a risky move for James Gunn. Zack Snyder faced criticism for debuting Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the Batman v Superman film, and Gunn might receive a similar negative reaction if he does the same.
