The Justice League, comprising Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Green Lantern (specifically John Stewart, Hal Jordan, and Guy Gardner), Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman, is a common assemblage in various DC Universe versions. However, it remains uncertain if these characters, often referred to as DC’s “Big Seven,” are present in the current DC Universe. James Gunn, along with Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, has suggested that the Justice League may still be a while off. At this point, only David Corenswet’s Superman and an uncast Batman (who made a brief appearance in Creature Commandos) have been confirmed, while other members like Aquaman have yet to make an appearance by the time Peacemaker season 2 is set.
On Monday’s episode of “Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn”, the creator of “The Suicide Squad” and “Superman” movies delved into what is considered canon in the DC Universe. In the first season episode “Murn After Reading” of “Peacemaker”, Chris Smith (played by John Cena) disparaged the Flash as an intolerable jerk, and though he’s never interacted with Wonder Woman, he claims she was flirting with him at a party from afar.
Gunn stated that he can’t confirm yet if The Flash and Wonder Woman appear in the DC Universe as canonical characters due to their mentions. He implied that these characters will indeed be part of the universe at some point, but their current status within it remains uncertain.
As a cinephile, it appears that James Gunn’s remarks suggest my character, Barry Allen (The Flash), and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman from the 2023 movie “The Flash” didn’t make the cut in the new continuity that includes “Creature Commandos,” “Superman,” and “Peacemaker.” Interestingly, there was a cameo by me and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in “Peacemaker,” but it seems the Justice League’s presence within this continuity has been declared non-canonical.

In the fourth episode of Creature Commandos, which featured numerous cameos, both The Flash and Wonder Woman were depicted as deceased. This episode presented a vision by the sorceress Circe to Amanda Waller, revealing a potential apocalyptic scenario where the world’s heroes, including The Flash, succumbed to the rule of his rogue counterpart, Gorilla Grodd.
DC Studios is currently working on a new “Wonder Woman” film, which Gunn has identified as a top priority, along with an HBO Max series called “Paradise Lost,” which takes place in the homeland of Princess Diana of Themyscira. Regarding the Flash, it seems that he may not make a swift appearance in the DC Universe according to Gunn’s hints.
The second season of the show “Peacemaker,” featuring returning actors John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick, along with new additions Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows, will be available to stream on HBO Max starting August 21.
