Director James Gunn recently voiced his thoughts about Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane potentially developing powers and transitioning into Superwoman in Superman 2. The Superman film, helmed by Gunn and featuring David Corenswet as the titular hero, made its debut in cinemas on July 11. This movie garnered one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes ratings for a Superman production upon release.
James Gunn on Lois Lane becoming Superwoman in Superman 2
During a recent chat, the seasoned director shared his views on the possibility of Lois Lane transforming into Superwoman in the upcoming sequel to Superman.
At a Q&A session with Wired, I found myself alongside Rachel Brosnahan, David Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult. During the discussion, one audience member asked, “Does Lois Lane ever gain powers?” In response, Rachel delightfully revealed, “In All-Star Superman, she transforms into Superwoman for a day on her birthday.” Beyond that 2006 issue of All-Star Superman, Lois has also been seen wielding powers in Action Comics #60 from 1943 and Superman #19 from 2024.
Later on, Brosnahan inquired about Gunn’s inspiration from the comics regarding granting powers to Lois Lane in the Superman sequel. To this, Gunn responded affirmatively, expressing, “Every time I envision her with powers, I can feel it…I know it’s meant for Rachel.” She was thrilled about being chosen as Lois Lane, but a part of her also yearned to have the ability to fly.
Afterwards, Rachel Brosnahan spoke to the audience saying, “Pass on to James that there should be a sequel featuring Lois Lane soaring through the skies.” In response, James Gunn indicated that this is the only thing about a sequel he’ll hear from fans regarding his project.
At present, there’s been no clear confirmation about Superman 2. However, during a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn hinted that he’s working on something related to the Superman universe, but he didn’t explicitly state it as a direct sequel to Superman.
