James Gunn is known for being secretive. For months, he denied rumors that Brainiac would be the villain in the upcoming Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Despite the persistent casting speculation, Gunn remained tight-lipped until he was ready to reveal that Lars Eidinger would play the android. This unpredictability keeps those trying to leak information guessing, particularly when it comes to the important roles of Batman and Wonder Woman in the DC Universe.
James Gunn is suggesting that finding an actor to play Batman for DC Studios is still an ongoing process, just as it was when the studio first launched in 2022. Meanwhile, the situation with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is different. Gunn hasn’t confirmed or denied rumors that she’ll appear in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow. He did, however, dismiss another report as completely false, comparing it to Lex Luthor’s deceptive nature.
A graphic circulating on Threads claimed that casting for the next Wonder Woman movie was starting and would be revealed in January. Though some fans believed it, one person directly asked James Gunn about it, and he simply replied, “Nope.” This means fans shouldn’t expect a new Wonder Woman announcement soon, but DC Studios is still actively working on the project, so there’s no need to worry.
Wonder Woman Is Going to Be a Big Part of the DCU, No Matter Who Plays Her

James Gunn revealed back in June that a new Wonder Woman movie is being developed at DC Studios. While filming won’t start for a while, writer Ana Nogueira—known for her work on Supergirl and Teen Titans—is actively developing the story. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has highlighted Wonder Woman as a key part of the DC Universe, alongside iconic characters like Batman, Superman, and Supergirl.
After hearing what his boss said, Gunn told Entertainment Weekly he suspected the idea originated with something he’d mentioned. While he didn’t want to limit focus to just those four characters, he emphasized their importance to the project. He expressed satisfaction with the current direction of two of those characters and stated they were actively working on the other two.
Things might be different now that summer is over, and James Gunn is expected to reveal who he’s chosen to play Wonder Woman soon. But he’ll keep his decision under wraps until he’s ready to share it – that’s simply how these things work.
