James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, recently shared a preview of the upcoming Supergirl trailer, giving fans their first look at Supergirl’s new sidekick. The movie, set to release in 2026, will officially introduce Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, a Kryptonian heroine on a mission of revenge across the universe. This quest begins after her dog, Krypto, is seriously injured in a fight with a major villain – a storyline taken from the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book. With actors Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley cast as Krem and Ruthye (Supergirl’s sidekick), it’s likely the movie will draw heavily from the source material.
Along with the first poster for Supergirl, James Gunn shared a 15-second sneak peek of the trailer coming online tomorrow, December 11, 2025. At the 10-second mark, fans got their first clear look at Supergirl’s sidekick, Ruthye, as the two are surrounded by what seem to be space mercenaries.

Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young woman driven to avenge her father’s death by tracking down Krem of the Yellow Hills. Krem is also responsible for seriously injuring Krypto, which is why Supergirl joins forces with Ruthye to get revenge on this dangerous leader.

In the story Woman of Tomorrow, Ruthye and Supergirl grew close while learning from each other, developing a strong, lasting bond that positively impacted both their lives. Though Ruthye acts as Supergirl’s companion, she’s a skilled fighter herself, proficient in both sword fighting and close combat.
Craig Gillespie directs the upcoming film Supergirl, featuring Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, and David Krumholtz. Notably, Jason Momoa’s role marks a first for DC in nearly 50 years. The movie is set to be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
Why Supergirl & Ruthye’s Partnership Is Crucial to Kara’s Growth

Following the introduction of Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-el as a self-centered and somewhat lost young woman in Superman, her developing relationship with Ruthye is expected to challenge her perspective and potentially lead to significant character growth.
Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins when Ruthye pays Kara (Supergirl) to locate someone named Krem. As they search together, a bond forms between them, and they begin to deal with difficult memories from their pasts. This journey also reveals a more vulnerable and human side of Supergirl.
The close bond between Ruthye and Kara has the potential to be a powerful and meaningful element of Supergirl’s story, particularly before she eventually teams up with Superman in future appearances.
I really think Ruthye could be amazing for Kara. Seeing Ruthye, a true warrior with such strong values, will help Kara reconnect with what made her a hero in the first place. It’s like Ruthye will be a guide, helping Kara find her way back to being the hero we know she can be, and grow beyond just being a powerful fighter. I believe Ruthye will help Kara become a complete hero.
