James Gunn Reveals Peacemaker Season 2 Theme at SDCC

As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that in the upcoming Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker’, we’re switching things up with the fresh and energetic tune “Oh Lord” by Foxy Shazam taking over as the opening theme. This exciting announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con during an event called “Peacefest”, hosted by HBO Max, where DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn unveiled this news. To make it even more memorable, he had Foxy Shazam perform live on stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy!

The opening theme for Season 1, “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” by Wig Wam, was a massive hit among fans and critics alike, with its captivating dance number. Now, we eagerly await to see if the new opener can match this level of acclaim when it premieres on Thursday, August 21st, only on HBO Max.

At Peacefest on Saturday night, Gunn unveiled an exciting announcement himself, showering praises upon Foxy Shazam. He exclaimed, “Let me share some fantastic news with everyone here – this moment I am about to reveal features a song from my all-time favorite band, the undeniably greatest rock ‘n’ roll group in existence: Foxy Shazam! They’ll be playing it for you now – ‘Oh Lord,’ get ready!

Foxy Shazam originated in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2004 and has been labeled as pop rock, alternative rock, and sometimes glam rock. Their music aligns well with the hair metal aesthetic that Gunn portrayed during Peacemaker Season 1. Over the years, they embarked on some famous tours and put out five studio albums between 2004 and 2014, when they took a break. During their time away, various band members worked on separate projects before reuniting in 2020. Since then, they have released an additional four studio albums.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can’t help but reminisce about the iconic track “Oh Lord” from that beloved band’s 2010 self-titled album, which they graced us with before their temporary break. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time Gunn has incorporated the band’s music into his work – recall the Season 1 trailer for Peacemaker , where their electrifying 2012 hit “Welcome to the Church of Rock and Roll” was featured.

In simpler terms, “Peacemaker” Season 2 faces a challenge in integrating characters into Gunn’s growing DC Universe without slowing down the ongoing narrative. It has been announced that notable DCU characters such as Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), and Sean Gunn (Maxwell Lord) will make appearances. However, Gunn emphasized to fans that he is primarily focused on delivering satisfying character stories in this season.

He expressed his preference for TV series where characters evolve instead of staying consistent throughout each season. He wants to witness change, even regression at times. As stated during SDCC, Peacemaker has undergone a transformation this year, grappling with the inner demons he discovered in the previous season. However, society is not embracing him as a hero due to his current state.

Right now, you can stream Peacemaker’s thrilling first season on HBO Max. Get ready as the second season kicks off on Thursday, August 21st. You can listen to Foxy Shazam’s electrifying tunes on a variety of popular music streaming platforms.
