James Gunn Reveals Scrapped Deadpool Crossover in DCU, Ryan Reynolds “Wanted to Do It”

For years, fans of comic books have dreamed of seeing characters from Marvel and DC interact in a single story. While the two companies have occasionally collaborated on comics – like the famous *Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man* in the 1970s and *X-Men/Teen Titans* in the 1980s, and even a recent collection of stories – the idea of a crossover movie was once considered impossible. Now that both Marvel and DC have successful film franchises, fans have been passionately debating whether a big-screen crossover could actually happen, and it nearly became a reality this week.

While a live-action crossover between Marvel and DC hasn’t been a major focus for either company, it hasn’t been completely dismissed either. Recently, DC’s James Gunn revealed he actually developed an idea for the DC Universe that would have created a crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The surprising element? It would have featured Deadpool, Marvel’s popular and talkative anti-hero.

James Gunn Considered a Deadpool Crossover in Peacemaker’s Season 2 Finale

During a recent press conference with ComicBook, Peacemaker creator James Gunn revealed a surprising idea he considered for the Season 2 finale. While the episode focuses on ARGUS exploring a chamber that leads to different universes – including worlds with bizarre creatures and candy lands – Gunn thought about having Deadpool simply appear behind one of the doors.

James Gunn explained he’d envisioned a scene where characters would open a door and find Deadpool inside. He discussed the possibility with Ryan Reynolds, but it would have required a lot of complex arrangements to make it happen, despite Reynolds being interested in the idea.

After sharing the news, Gunn jokingly said, “Now everyone will only talk about Deadpool being over there! I really shouldn’t have mentioned it.”

James Gunn is correct – getting Deadpool, a Marvel character now owned by Disney, into HBO’s *Peacemaker* would have been incredibly difficult. It would have required extensive legal work and input from many different people involved in both projects. A crossover like that would have been a huge fan surprise, but it’s likely the details would have leaked due to all the necessary approvals and paperwork.

As a huge movie fan, what excites me most about this news is that a Marvel-DC crossover doesn’t seem quite as far-fetched as it used to. James Gunn actually *had* an idea for it and even discussed it with Ryan Reynolds – that tells me it’s a real possibility, not just a pipe dream. Even though it’s not happening right now, the fact that they’re even talking about it is a huge step. I really believe it’s only a matter of time before we see it happen – that door is going to open eventually!
