Over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, James Gunn, being a man of many tasks, not only participated in the panel for the upcoming second season of Peacemaker on HBO Max, but also made an appearance at Peacefest – an event within the Comic-Con promoting the John Cena-led series. This marked his first public outing since the release of Superman, following a lengthy press tour to celebrate its premiere. It’s no wonder then that Gunn decided to have some fun, pitting two famous DC Universe pets against each other: Eagly and Krypto.
In the discussion for Season 2 of Peacemaker, James Gunn was posed a question about which superior super pet was Eagly or Krypto. Both John Cena and Gunn concurred that Eagly stood out as the better choice between the two. According to Gunn, Eagly’s well-behaved nature makes him preferable, a point fans can likely appreciate given that Eagly is portrayed as loyal and endearing in Peacemaker. In contrast, Krypto may exhibit loyalty but his immense strength could lead to him being less well-behaved, potentially causing issues if the two super pets were to engage in a fight.
Inquired about which pet is preferable between Krypto and Eagly, and Cena stated that Eagly is the better choice due to his better-mannered nature compared to Krypto. Gunn concurred with this assessment.

Gunn is renowned for turning even the unconventional screen characters into lovable favorites. This talent was particularly evident in the Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, where he managed to capture the hearts of general audiences not just with a talking tree but also a gun-wielding raccoon. Just as his use of music adds depth to his stories, Gunn has masterfully made animal characters integral parts of the narratives he weaves. In the Peacemaker series’ first season, Eagly, the devoted pet sidekick of Peacemaker, stole many scenes. Similarly, Krypto, Superman’s loyal pet in the latest release, has also become a beloved character.
Eagly displays affection towards Peacemaker beyond just hugs; he’s also been observed presenting him dead rodents as tokens of love. Essentially, Eagly embodies the spirit of a loving golden retriever but in the form of a bald eagle. In contrast, Krypto from Superman is an independent character with his unique personality traits. He’s mischievous, yet adorable. A scene from the movie depicts him causing chaos by damaging parts of the Fortress of Solitude, and another shows him playfully nipping at Superman’s feet. Krypto is a handful in all the best ways possible, and even when he’s not causing trouble, his powers make him a formidable force to contend with.
For those who want to refresh their memory or for newcomers, they can get acquainted with Eagly in the initial season of Peacemaker, currently available only on HBO Max. Alternatively, people who haven’t yet had a chance can encounter Krypto by watching Superman in cinemas at present.
As for the best super pet, it’s subjective and depends on personal preference. However, Krypto is often considered a fan favorite due to his loyal friendship with Superman and unique abilities as a super-powered dog.
