James Gunn Shoots Down DCU Batman Actor Rumor

In Matt Reeves’ Batman crime saga, Robert Pattinson will portray Batman, however, this version of Batman won’t be part of the main DC Universe. Since these two storylines are distinct, fans have been eagerly discussing who might play the Caped Crusader in the primary DC Universe. The star of “Reacher,” Alan Ritchson, has been a favored choice by many, but he’s just one name that’s been mentioned. James Gunn, co-head at DC Studios, has an extensive roster of collaborators; several stars from his “Guardians of the Galaxy” series have already appeared in the DC Universe. Although Gunn would like to work with another “Guardians” actor again, he won’t be selecting that particular actor for the role of Batman.

In an interview with PelucheEn ElEstuche, Gunn was queried about Chris Pratt potentially portraying Batman in the future. Gunn responded by saying, “As Batman, no. However, yes, for another role. Chris Pratt is one of my closest friends and we frequently converse. He’s a fantastic individual who would relish the opportunity to work with DC. I would support him taking on a project at DC.

Fans Still Have To Wait a While for the DCU’s Batman To Debut

Currently, there’s no rush for Gunn to cast Batman in the DCU, as he wants to avoid releasing “The Brave and the Bold” in the same year as Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman Part II,” which is set to release in October 2027. Understandably, the debut of “The Brave and the Bold” will likely not occur before 2028, with factors like script development and production speed of Reeves’ third “Batman” movie playing a significant role in determining this timeline.

In the early stages of DC Universe’s development, it seems that Gunn and his team are taking their time before introducing a multitude of new characters. According to recent reports, DC Studios plans to release only one or two films each year. The movies “Supergirl” and “Clayface” have been scheduled for 2026, with “The Batman Part II” set to follow in the next year. This restricted production is part of Gunn’s plan to prioritize quality over quantity; no DC Studios project will commence filming until a completed script and Gunn’s approval are both secured.

It’s apparent that Chris Pratt’s arrival in the DC Universe might be some time off. His inclusion hinges on which movies get greenlit first and whether they find a suitable role for him. James Gunn isn’t going to cast Pratt solely due to their friendship; instead, he aims to find the perfect fit. Additionally, Pratt may still have commitments within the Marvel Cinematic Universe to attend to. While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been announced with Star-Lord set to reappear, a release date hasn’t been confirmed yet. It’s expected that Pratt won’t transition to DC until he completes his Marvel duties; typically, actors don’t appear in both franchises at the same time.

Chris Pratt possesses the acting prowess to deliver intense and emotional scenes, evident in his performances across the Guardians of the Galaxy series. This suggests he could go beyond simply providing humor if cast as Batman. However, James Gunn is correct in stating that Pratt might not be the ideal choice for this specific role. It’s a character that wouldn’t fully utilize Pratt’s acting abilities. Furthermore, Pratt’s fame nowadays could potentially overshadow the character; casting a less-known actor (similar to David Corenswet as Superman) might make it easier for him to immerse himself in the role more effectively.
