In the debut season of “Peacemaker,” mercenary Clemson Murn, portrayed by Chukwudi Iwuji, recruits ex-military operative Christopher Smith (John Cena) into his covert unit for a project named Butterfly. This operation involves eliminating influential individuals harboring extraterrestrial beings resembling butterflies. As the team Peacemaker, comprising Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), John Economos (Steve Agee), uncovers a plot, they discover that Murn is one such host, but surprisingly, he’s been inhabited by the benevolent butterfly named Ik Nobe Llok.
As a die-hard movie buff, let me rephrase that for you: In an attempt to thwart the invasion of Earth by the queen butterfly, Eek Stack Ik Ik, I sadly found myself squashed by Detective Sophie Song (Annie Chang), after I had unintentionally succumbed to the leeching of Eek Stack Ik Ik.
James Gunn, the creator and showrunner of Peacemaker, stated on The Official Podcast that Clemson Murn’s fate from season 1 is considered official within the DC Universe. This universe, which includes shows like Creature Commandos and Superman, maintains an ongoing continuity. Gunn further hinted at the possibility of Iwuji returning in a different role.
In discussing potential roles for Chuk in the DCU, the co-chief of DC Studios hinted that his iconic appearance from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ might not be set in stone. However, they also suggested an intriguing possibility – Chuk could transform into a completely different character, one that deviates from the more humanoid archetypes we’re used to.

In the same vein, Gunn worked with his frequent partner Michael Rooker again. Rooker, who portrayed the deceased Savant from last year’s “The Suicide Squad”, and previously lent his voice to a Superman Robot in “Superman”, is now Red St. Wild – a marksman targeting Peacemaker’s pet eagle, Eagly – in season 2 of “Peacemaker”.
The recurring cast members John Cena, Sarah Brooks, David Harold, Elden Henson, and Freddie Stroma (as Vigilante) along with Robert Patrick (Auggie Smith) come back for the new season. This season also introduces three new faces: Tim Meadows as A.R.G.U.S. Agent Langston Fleury, Sol Rodríguez as Sasha Bordeaux from Checkmate, and Frank Grillo reprising his role as Rick Flag Sr., who was previously seen in Creature Commandos and Superman. The second season of Peacemaker is set to debut on HBO Max on August 21.
