Superman chooses friendship over fear, whereas Batman prefers instilling terror in criminals. Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, their alter egos, also reflect these contrasting styles.
As a passionate cinephile, I found myself pondering over the iconic Superman costume when it came to deciding whether David Corenswet’s Superman should sport those classic red briefs on the outside of his suit. In behind-the-scenes footage from ‘Adventures in Making Superman’, it was clear that the actor himself had a strong preference for this timeless touch – a nod to the original design that I couldn’t help but appreciate.
Superman should be capable of being hugged.” This sentiment is evident in a new interview where he mentions feeling a certain charm about the suit. This interview is featured in the extra content included with the movie’s digital release.
Gunn admits that even he would be drawn into the world of Batman if he had the chance. After all, Batman is quite an intense character. He dresses up in a frightening bat suit and intimidates others.

In simpler terms, Corenswet compared Superman’s early suit design, which included trunks, to safety gear that is easy to spot. He stated, “I’m making myself known, I’m like public safety.” Wearing such a suit felt more like wearing a high-visibility work uniform, even with the shorts and belt.
Through some back-and-forth discussions, Corenswet managed to persuade Gunn that the new Superman should don trunks, as he had found them somewhat amusing in the past, a sentiment he shared with Fandango.

In a shared interview, Corenswet mentioned that during discussions, they considered whether the character’s peculiar items served a cool purpose or were justified, but Corenswet suggested another perspective: ‘Perhaps they’re intended to appear somewhat goofy?’ Corenswet further explained that Gunn’s character might wear these items to deliberately seem a bit foolish. This, in essence, serves to challenge the audience’s perception of his true power.
It’s common knowledge that he appears alien, with the ability to emit beams from his eyes and level things using his breath, making him quite fearsome. However, Gunn pointed out that despite this, he has a soft spot for children and humans, wanting them not to fear him. This was the factor that led Gunn to keep the character’s iconic trunks.
Beginning August 15, you can watch DC Studios’ Superman movie conveniently at home via digital retailers. On September 23, the film will be available for purchase in 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD), Blu-ray, and DVD formats.
