James Gunn’s SECRET Favorite DC Project Revealed!

James Gunn hinted that his most cherished project within the DC Universe has yet to be unveiled. The acclaimed director (recognized for his work on movies such as Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and DC’s The Suicide Squad) is preparing to reveal a fresh perspective for the DC brand in both cinema and television, starting with the upcoming David Corenswet-starring Superman movie. This film marks the beginning of a series of projects that also encompass Peacemaker, Supergirl, and Lanterns, all planned for release within the next year. However, what lies beyond these productions remains uncertain for Gunn’s new superhero endeavor.

In a recent chat, DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn subtly suggested that there are several undisclosed projects brewing within the DC Universe, one of which he finds particularly delightful – his “most cherished project.” These fresh, hidden gems appear to be on top of the already disclosed lineup unveiled in January 2023, comprising the Authority movie, James Mangold’s Swamp Thing, and the Viola Davis-starring Waller series.

Gunn revealed some fresh details during a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly. When asked about possible upcoming DCU projects, he hinted at another television series which he is particularly fond of and suggested it could be produced soon.

Additionally, I have a TV series that holds a special place for me, which I hope will be produced soon. This show is truly my favorite among all these options.

He went on to mention that there are various other ventures currently in progress, such as a film, his upcoming work, and the movie titled “Clayface,” directed by Mike Flanagan.

In addition to the movie ‘Clayface’, there are other projects in the works. One of these films is progressing well, while another is still in its early stages. However, I can’t reveal too much about them, but I feel optimistic about both. As for what comes next, it’s not definitive yet, but we have a strong sense of confidence in the project I’m working on.

When asked if any of these unscheduled initiatives were linked to what the Blue Brand had previously disclosed, Gunn replied that they were primarily “things not yet revealed,” including a specific project he’s been planning since the start, which he kept secret because it was “easy for another company to copy.

My favorite project hasn’t been revealed yet, although some scripts have leaked. However, there are two other scripts that remain unknown. Mostly, it’s about unveiling what people don’t know… A few of the projects [planned for January 2023] are progressing well and will likely be released, but there was one project I had in mind from the start when I pitched my vision for DCU to David Zaslav. We didn’t announce it during our first meeting because I felt another company could easily replicate it. That’s a significant aspect of what we’re working on.

Following the release of James Gunn’s Superman, initiating the DCU on July 11, there is still a lot of uncertainty about what lies ahead for the franchise. Fans are aware that they can expect John Cena’s Peacemaker Season 2 in August, the Supergirl movie starring Milly Alcock in June 2026, and both Clayface in September 2026, as well as HBO’s Lanterns series sometime next year. However, beyond those upcoming productions, the future remains largely unknown.

What Could James Gunn’s Secret Favorite DC Project Be?

As a supporter, I’m intrigued by the quotes from James Gunn and the mystery surrounding his new project. What could this unique creation he’s penning be? And what about that movie he’s had in mind since his initial DC pitch? These are all fascinating questions. Yet, it’s the “favorite” project he mentioned that has me particularly curious. I wonder what amazing story this might unfold.

It’s important to point out that the title in question is a fresh television series from the DC Universe, not an unexpected movie. When discussing his preferred project, he referred to “another TV show,” which indicates that this production will indeed air on televisions globally rather than hitting cinema screens.

As a die-hard fan of comics and movies, I’ve got an intriguing theory brewing about the new show from Gunn that could make perfect sense. Now, this is all speculation at this stage, but what if the DC Studios co-CEO is hinting towards the possibility of a Terrifics TV series?

In comic books by DC, there’s a remarkable superhero squad known as The Terrifics, founded by the character Mister Terrific. This team includes extraordinary individuals such as Metamorpho, Plastic Man, and Phantom Girl. With Edi Gathegi’s portrayal of Mister Terrific (set to appear in Superman) being confirmed for future appearances within the franchise, it seems that this could be where the story is heading.

Instead of continuing the Justice Gang story from Superman, it would be ideal to reintroduce Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner, and Hawkgirl as a team known as The Terrifics, serving as a sort of prelude or appetizer to the Justice League before they make their appearance in DC Comics, possibly in one of the upcoming movies that Gunn has hinted at but not yet announced.

Instead of focusing on popular characters, this upcoming TV series might instead delve into the obscure figures of the DC universe, such as Bat-Mite or lesser-known heroes hidden within DC Comics history.
