James Marsden initially brought the character of Cyclops from the X-Men comics to life on the big screen for many moviegoers in 2000’s X-Men. His portrayal was widely loved, but fans were dismayed when the character met an untimely end in X-Men: The Last Stand. After a brief appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014, it seemed like Marsden’s time as Cyclops had come to an end. However, after a decade away from the role, he is set to return for the epic crossover event, Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Marsden discussed his exciting return, describing it as a poignant and fitting conclusion to the iconic role that jump-started his career.
After being in the acting business for quite some time, Marsden admitted that it might be challenging for him to wear the superhero costume again due to his advanced age. He expressed excitement about working with a big project and how fans have been asking him to return for two decades. However, he jokingly added that if they waited a few more years, he might struggle to fit into the costume. Overall, he enjoyed the experience of reprising his role that made him famous and was the first major event project he ever worked on, as well as playing an iconic comic book character.
The comeback of Marsden is a significant element in the larger gathering of actors from the initial Fox X-Men series. In the movie “Avengers: Doomsday”, he will be accompanied by some of his previous castmates, such as Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast). The introduction of these characters into the primary Marvel Cinematic Universe was formally set in motion during the post-credits scene of “The Marvels”, where Grammer’s Beast unexpectedly appeared to welcome Monica Rambeau after she ended up in an alternate reality.
