Jane Austen-inspired BBC drama The Other Bennet Sister gets release date confirmed in new trailer

I’m so excited – we finally have a premiere date for ‘The Other Bennet Sister‘! It’s coming to BBC One and iPlayer just as spring arrives, and as a huge Jane Austen fan, I can’t wait to see this beautiful period drama.

This series is based on Janice Hadlow’s novel and focuses on Mary Bennet, a less prominent character from Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. The role is played by Ella Bruccoleri, known for her work in Call the Midwife.

Now, Mary gets her own story, set alongside the world of Pride & Prejudice, and explores what happens after the events of the original novel. Unlike her sisters, who focus on finding love and success in society, Mary chooses a completely different direction in life.

You can watch The Other Bennet Sister for the first time on BBC One at 8pm on Sunday, March 15th, 2026. The first two episodes will air back-to-back that evening, and all episodes will also be available to stream on iPlayer starting the same day.

I just saw the brand new trailer the BBC dropped, and it gives you a great sneak peek at what’s coming up. I’ve included it below so you can check it out too!

The story follows Mary as she leaves her family home, Longbourn, and moves to London. She goes to live with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, in their stylish house on Gracechurch Street.

“There, she begins a journey of self-discovery.”

Hadlow highly commended the lead actor in ‘The Other Bennet Sister,’ Bruccoleri (known for ‘Down Cemetery Road’ and ‘Bridgerton’), noting she portrays Mary with remarkable emotion and depth.

Screenwriter Sarah Quintrell, known for ‘The Power,’ shared that it’s been a wonderful experience to tell the story of Jane Austen’s world from Mary Bennet’s perspective for the first time. She also praised the cast, saying they’ve brought a fresh and vibrant energy to the characters.

We’re revisiting a well-known world, but telling a fresh story. It’s about Mary growing up and figuring out where she belongs when she feels different from everyone else.

Growing up in Croydon, my life was a world away from Jane Austen’s. However, her stories have a timeless quality that appeals to everyone, regardless of age or background, and we’re thrilled to share the Bennet family with a new generation.

Quintrell wrapped up by saying that “The Other Bennet Sister” stays true to the feel of Pride and Prejudice while also aiming to offer something fresh and enjoyable for both longtime fans and new readers.

The show features a talented cast including Ruth Jones, known for ‘Gavin & Stacey,’ Richard E. Grant from ‘Suspect,’ Laurie Davidson who starred in ‘A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story,’ Tanya Reynolds of ‘The Decameron,’ Ryan Sampson (‘Mr Bigstuff’), and Indira Varma (‘The Night Manager’), as well as many other skilled actors.

I just finished watching ‘The Other Bennet Sister,’ and it’s interesting to note it came out so soon after we celebrated the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth last year. In fact, we got our first glimpse of the film with a preview clip around that time, so it’s been a while in the making! It feels particularly timely given the recent Austen celebrations.
