Like all good things, streaming content changes over time. Every month, streaming services add new shows and movies, but they also remove titles. While it’s normal for entertainment options to rotate, it’s still disappointing when a favorite leaves a platform. For Star Trek fans who use Netflix, January 1st will be a tough day, as several popular series will no longer be available.
Starting December 31st, four popular Star Trek titles—the 2009 Star Trek film, Star Trek: Into Darkness, Star Trek: Beyond, and season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy—will no longer be available on the streaming service. This removal isn’t limited to viewers in the United States; it’s happening worldwide, meaning Star Trek fans globally will need to find these shows and movies on different platforms.
Why Is Star Trek Leaving Netflix?

It’s understandably disappointing for fans that more Star Trek shows are leaving Netflix, but this has been happening gradually. The original Star Trek series all left the platform in the U.S. over the past couple of years, and that process is now finishing for viewers internationally. Still, it’s a big shift since Netflix has long been the main place to watch Star Trek. These changes are simply because the licensing agreements have ended, and as those agreements expire, the shows move to other streaming services. It looks like this transition is now complete.
Okay, Trekkies, here’s the deal: your streaming options are shifting. While you’ll still be able to watch all things Star Trek, you’ll need to move over to Paramount+ from now on. Paramount is basically bringing everything under one roof, which makes sense for the franchise. The big question mark right now is Star Trek: Prodigy. It had a complicated journey – cancelled by Paramount+, then rescued by Netflix, and now it’s leaving that platform too. Season one is already gone, and season two is departing on January 1st, leaving its future uncertain. There’s buzz it might return to Paramount+ in 2026, but until then, if you’re a Prodigy fan, I’d recommend catching those episodes before they vanish! It’s a bit of a frustrating situation, but at least the core Star Trek universe is staying put on Paramount+.
