Jared Padalecki’s The Boys Role Could Solve a 5-Year-Old Mystery (& Spell Doom for One Hero)

The upcoming final season of The Boys has a lot to cover. It needs to follow up on the events of its popular spin-off, Gen V, which concluded with Starlight and A-Train joining forces with the students of Godolkin University to oppose Homelander. Meanwhile, Homelander has been establishing camps to isolate and control those he considers undesirable. Now, it’s up to Starlight and Billy Butcher, the remaining members of The Boys, to rally allies and fight back against him.

Even as The Boys heads toward its final season, the show isn’t holding back on the entertainment. Several guest appearances have been announced for Season 5, including one by Seth Rogen, who also produces the show. However, another appearance is generating even more buzz: Jared Padalecki will be reuniting with at least two of his former Supernatural colleagues next year. This could be a highlight for Padalecki as he joins the world created by Erik Kripke.

The Boys‘ Season 5 Trailer Might Reveal Jared Padalecki’s Role

Even though Jared Padalecki was cast a while back, fans won’t see his character appear until Season 5 of The Boys, which will be released in December 2025. The new trailer shows The Boys reuniting to prepare for another battle with Homelander, who isn’t going down without a fight. He’s brought in some backup: his father, Soldier Boy. It’s currently unknown why Soldier Boy is now working with Homelander after trying to kill him in Season 3, but it might be connected to the character they meet in the trailer. That character appears to be Padalecki’s, and he seems to be living a comfortable life.

The initial glimpse of Padalecki’s character suggests Homelander and Soldier Boy require his help with something. Given their belief in the superiority of Supes, he’s likely one of them. However, with Homelander having already drawn out most known Supes, the possibilities are limited. One theory is that Padalecki is playing Mister Marathon, a Supe frequently referenced but missing since before the series began. If so, his character’s arrival could spell trouble for a hero we already know.

Mister Marathon Has a Bone to Pick With A-Train

Throughout the first four seasons of The Boys, it’s revealed that A-Train wasn’t the first speedster on The Seven. That title actually belonged to Mister Marathon, who was briefly a member before leaving to focus on other things. We learn that a race between him and A-Train was once planned, but it never happened, and he ended up sidelined. However, Season 3 shows he’s still active, appearing in Dawn of the Seven with his old teammates. While he likely won’t get any more movie roles in Season 5, Mister Marathon might still find a way to regain prominence.

A-Train, who took over for Mister Marathon, has switched sides and is now helping The Boys instead of Homelander. This betrayal has likely angered Homelander, and he may seek revenge. To counter A-Train’s speed, Homelander might bring in Mister Marathon, potentially marking the character’s first appearance in the live-action series. While we won’t know for sure until Season 5 of The Boys arrives in April 2026, this seems like a logical way to introduce Jared Padalecki’s character and give him a significant role.
