Jason Momoa Shares Perfect Reaction to His Lobo DCU Debut Photos

Jason Momoa, known for playing Aquaman in previous DC films, is excited to be joining the DC Universe as Lobo. He’ll star as the intergalactic bounty hunter in the upcoming Supergirl movie, alongside Milly Alcock, who plays the lead role. Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo marks his official debut in the new DCU.

Fans had spent months discussing rumors and hints about the character, but the movie’s first trailer finally revealed what Jason Momoa’s new DC villain would actually look like on screen.

After the trailer was released, Jason Momoa shared his enthusiastic reaction on social media. He posted a picture of his version of Lobo from the Supergirl preview on his Instagram Stories, with the caption, “Lobo, I am the main man. Finally!”

People familiar with the Lobo comics will instantly recognize these lines as things he often says, proving how much Jason Momoa loves playing the character.

Jason Momoa’s interest in playing Lobo began when James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads of DC. They immediately talked to him about rejoining the DC Universe, but in a different character – not as Aquaman.

In a 2022 interview with The New York Times, Jason Momoa revealed that when he first joined the DC Universe, he specifically hoped to play Lobo. He remembered being asked which character he’d like to portray, and immediately responding, “Lobo.” He described Lobo as a long-haired, cigar-smoking, motorcycle-riding alien bounty hunter from DC Comics.

I actually did that, and it was exactly the vibe Zack Snyder was going for with Arthur Curry, you know, Aquaman. He ended up calling me into his office and asked if I knew who he wanted me to play. I immediately thought, ‘Lobo!’ That’s the character – a long-haired, cigar-chomping, motorcycle-riding alien bounty hunter straight out of the DC Comics world.

As a huge film fan, I’m really excited to see this finally happening! Years ago, the actor from Game of Thrones expressed wanting to see a Supergirl movie, and it’s now becoming a reality. Supergirl is hitting theaters on June 26, 2026, and it’s being directed by Craig Gillespie, who did Cruella. The story follows Kara Zor-El, played by Milly Alock, as she goes on a revenge mission across the galaxy, teaming up with a young alien who’s just lost their family.

How Much Lobo Are We About To Get in the DCU?

Jason Momoa is now confirmed to be playing Lobo! Fans have been eagerly waiting for this reveal, and we’ve finally gotten our first glimpse of the Aquaman star as the DC villain. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll have a major part in the next film.

Jason Momoa’s Lobo isn’t the primary villain in Supergirl. In fact, Milly Alcock’s character will actually face off against Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, as the main antagonist.

Fans likely only saw a very short appearance of Jason Momoa as Lobo, and that might be all there is in the entire movie. Since Lobo isn’t featured in the comic book the film is based on, his part will probably be small.

Considering his history as a major enemy of Superman, Supergirl, and the Justice League in the comics, there’s a good chance his upcoming movie appearance in 2026 will set up a larger role for him in the future of the DC Universe.
