Beyond his roles in shows like Game of Thrones and Aquaman, Jason Momoa is passionate about exploring new interests. His travel series, On the Roam, allows him to do just that, as he travels across the United States meeting fascinating people and discovering unique hobbies.
There’s a huge amount to learn and so much I want to share. It feels like there just isn’t enough time to do everything I dream of.
So, our new project, On The Roam, is basically us trying something a little different – we’re using our signature shooting style to share stories. These aren’t our stories, though; they’re about other people, about the artists and craftspeople we meet. Honestly, it’s cool because it lets me explore things I probably wouldn’t get to experience otherwise. The biggest surprise? I’m actually making music now, which is something I never imagined I’d be doing!
I’m thinking about taking a break from acting to focus on learning music and improving my skills. But honestly, I’m still figuring things out and growing as a musician and a person.
Jason Momoa credits the first season of his travel series, On The Roam, with helping him discover his deep love for music. The show, which initially focused on guitars, inspired him to seriously pursue learning and improving his musical skills. This led to a connection with Kirk Hammett of Metallica, and their shared passion for vintage guitars has blossomed into a friendship where Momoa is learning from a true guitar legend.
Jason Momoa Relies On Instagram And Fate To Bring On the Roam To Life
When I’m looking for people to be in my projects, I often find them on Instagram. It takes a lot of convincing to get people to let me into their homes and trust me – it’s not enough to just show up and expect access. People are naturally cautious, so you have to hope things fall into place. I believe when things are meant to happen, they do. Filmmaking is all about making choices and figuring things out as you go. It’s important to have a plan, but also be flexible and allow for positive changes along the way.
The actor highlighted the strong collaboration with Mendoza in bringing the story of On the Roam to life. He also feels that something beyond the cast and crew – almost fate – contributed to the show’s most authentic scenes. He explained, “Sometimes the story just takes on a life of its own, unfolding in ways you couldn’t predict. Those are the moments the audience really connects with, and it’s exciting to let the story evolve naturally. We start with a good idea, nurture it, and then see where it takes us.”
On the Roam Season 2 releases on May 14.
