I’m really excited about DC’s upcoming Supergirl movie. Not only does it finally put Supergirl front and center, but it’s adapting one of her most beloved storylines, Woman of Tomorrow. And the biggest surprise? Jason Momoa is perfect as Lobo! We got a quick peek at him in the initial trailer, but the new footage really shows him off, and honestly, he already feels like he’s owned the role forever. This debut is a huge win for the DCU.
James Gunn recently posted a new clip of Jason Momoa as Lobo on Bluesky. The footage starts with Momoa exiting his trailer on set, where he jokingly responds to a question about playing the character with a simple, “finally.” The clip then transitions to scenes from the movie, showing Lobo dramatically arriving on his spacehog and wielding a chain. We briefly see Lobo light a cigar and laugh before the footage cuts out. You can watch the clip for yourself in the video provided.
Finally.

The video provides a detailed view of the Spacehog. While Lobo’s motorcycle has been depicted in many ways, this version seems to perfectly represent its core features. The tall handlebars and flames shooting from the engines are spot-on, and it even includes some extra flames for added visual flair.
Lobo Was Actually Originally Featured in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Jason Momoa has long expressed his desire to play the character Lobo, and he started discussing it with James Gunn and Peter Safran after they took charge of DC. While Lobo doesn’t appear in the original Woman of Tomorrow comic book story, some believed he was added to the film adaptation specifically to feature Momoa in the role. However, it turns out Lobo was once planned to be included in the comic itself.
Tom King, the writer of the original comic, mentioned that Lobo appeared in early versions of the story, but was eventually cut. Now, Lobo is being included in the movie adaptation, though director James Gunn has stated they aren’t following the comic’s initial plans for the character.
James Gunn explained that the comic book series Woman of Tomorrow is made up of many small stories, so they needed to create a single, cohesive narrative with a clear beginning, middle, and end for the film. He said Lobo helps achieve this. While Lobo shares some similarities with the comic character Krem, he’s a distinct character in the movie. Gunn is a big fan of Lobo and believes he’s a major comic book character who hasn’t yet been adapted for the big screen, making his inclusion an exciting development.
Supergirl hits theaters on June 26, 2026.
