Jason Statham Co-Star Offers ‘Shelter’ Production, Casting News [exclusive]

The upcoming film *Shelter*, starring Jason Statham, is currently being finalized and is scheduled to be released on January 30, 2026. Bill Nighy, who also appears in the movie, recently shared some new details about it in an interview with MovieWeb, giving fans a much-anticipated update.

I really enjoyed working on ‘[Shelter],’ which was filmed in Ireland. It was a pleasure meeting Jason; he was incredibly generous and welcoming to everyone on the crew. It was a fantastic job. My character isn’t a ‘good guy,’ and that’s usually what I’m hired for, but it was a really good experience and I appreciated the chance to work with Jason.

Bill Nighy revealed he’s playing a villain in the new action film and shared that he reunited with Harriet Walter, a celebrated actress he hadn’t worked with since their early careers. He expressed how much he enjoyed working with her again.

The role Walter will play in *Shelter* hasn’t been announced, but she’s joined the film’s cast, alongside Naomi Ackie and Daniel Mays, directed by Ric Roman Waugh.

Bill Nighy’s Action Vehicle Dream

Bill Nighy is currently talking about his new mystery-thriller series, *Lazarus*, but he also revealed a long-held ambition he hasn’t yet achieved.

You know, for years people would ask me what I wanted to do next, and I’d always joke that my time for action movies had finally come. Then I got a new agent in the States, and surprisingly, he was open to the idea! Now, we’re actually talking about getting me into an action film – me, of all people, as the hero. It’s a bit unexpected, but hey, why not?

Bill Nighy does have one request for any role he takes: he’d like his character to have a superpower, even a small one. He explains he just wants something to account for his own high energy and physical strength.

I’m really excited about what Bill Nighy’s planning! He’s got a fantastic response to anyone doubting he can pull off this action role. He says he’s thought it all through – and loves the idea that the younger villains would underestimate him, calling him ‘grandpa,’ right before he takes them down. It’s a brilliant twist and honestly, as a film fan, I think it’s genius!

Billy Nighy is instantly associated with Christmas thanks to his memorable role in the beloved film *Love, Actually*. The movie continues to benefit him in many ways, and it’s a role fans still adore.

I’m well-known around Christmas time, which is lovely because I really love the film I’m associated with – it’s a positive force in the world, all about kindness and looking after each other. It’s become incredibly popular everywhere; I’ve traveled all over and people constantly quote lines to me. I once had someone in Alaska recite a line about staying away from drugs! It really resonates with people from all walks of life. Many have even told me it helped them through difficult times, like chemotherapy. It’s become a source of comfort and inspiration, and it’s truly beautiful to see. Professionally, it completely changed my career.

Shelter releases January 30th, 2026.
