Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie, who have worked together often, are teaming up for another movie. This new crime drama will be their sixth project as collaborators.
As reported exclusively by Variety, Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham are teaming up again for a new movie called Viva La Madness. The film is based on a novel by J.J. Connolly, and Ritchie will direct with Statham taking on a leading role.
While the movie’s exact story is still a secret, it’s based on a novel about a shadowy drug dealer known only as X, operating in London. The book, a continuation of J. Connolly’s 2000 novel Layer Cake, was first released in 2011 and is full of crime and intrigue.
A film based on the first book in the series was released in 2004, and it closely followed the original story. The plot centered on a cocaine dealer attempting one final job – a drug deal and the search for a kidnapped gangster’s daughter – before leaving the business. However, the new movie, Viva La Madness, is reportedly a standalone project with no connection to the earlier film, Layer Cake, or the author’s other work.
Filming for the movie is scheduled to start in January 2026. As of now, Jason Statham is the only actor confirmed to be part of the cast. Guy Ritchie will write and direct the film, titled Viva La Madness. Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson (Toff Guy Films), Jason Statham (Punch Palace), Thomas Benski (Lumina Studios), and John Friedberg (Black Bear) are all producing the movie.
Matthew Vaughn directed the film Layer Cake, which starred Daniel Craig. He also produced Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, both directed by Guy Ritchie. For over a decade, a follow-up to Layer Cake has been in development, and Vaughn and Ritchie have reportedly been discussing a sequel, titled Viva La Madness, since 2013.
