After over ten years, Jason Statham and the team behind the hit film Layer Cake are joining forces again for a new crime thriller called Viva La Madness. The movie will loosely continue the story from the 2004 film, bringing Statham back together with familiar faces as an all-star cast is assembled.
I’m really excited to hear that Jason Statham is teaming up with Guy Ritchie again for a new movie called Vivia La Madness! They previously worked together on Snatch and Wrath of Man, and I loved those films. Plus, it sounds like they’ve assembled an amazing cast, including someone Statham has worked with before! And it’s great to see some familiar faces like Jason Isaacs (from The White Lotus and Harry Potter), Babs Olusanmokun (Dune), Camila Mendes (Riverdale), and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting). Even better, singer Raúl Alejandro is making his big screen debut – I’m definitely going to check this one out!
Though not a direct sequel, Viva La Madness will be a related story to the popular 2004 crime thriller Layer Cake, which starred Daniel Craig and was directed by Matthew Vaughn. Jason Statham, who is also producing through his company Punch Palace Productions, will play the lead role originally portrayed by Craig. Thomas Benski of Gangs of London’s Lumina Studios and Toff Guy Films are also producing. The project is now in production after being announced in 2015.
‘Viva la Madness’ Takes the Action International

Lionsgate
I’m intrigued by Guy Ritchie’s new film, Viva La Madness, which is based on a follow-up novel by the author of Layer Cake. We don’t know exactly how faithful the adaptation will be just yet, but the book’s summary gives us a pretty good idea of the trouble Jason Statham’s character – a drug dealer, naturally – will find himself in. I’ve included the synopsis below so you can get a sense of it too…
Building on the gritty London crime world of Layer Cake, Viva la Madness expands the scope to international operations, including drug trafficking across the Atlantic, money laundering, and sophisticated cybercrime – all depicted with striking realism. The film follows a protagonist who’s lured back into the drug trade just as he’s about to retire, plunging him into a dangerous mix of London’s underworld, luxurious Caribbean life, and the threat of Venezuelan cartels operating in upscale London locations. The same captivating energy and unpredictable thrills of Layer Cake return in ‘Viva la Madness!’
Okay, as a big movie fan, especially of action and Guy Ritchie’s style, I’m seriously excited about Viva La Madness. It’s got Jason Statham back working with Ritchie and Vinnie Jones – and a bunch of other familiar faces from their previous films! Honestly, if you’re a Statham fan or love Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, this one looks like it’s going to be essential viewing.

Like his previous films such as Aladdin, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and Fountain of Youth, this new crime thriller will likely bring Guy Ritchie back to his roots in British gangster movies. According to a source, the film will be very distinctly British – energetic, quick-paced, and proudly patriotic.
