Director Timo Tjahjanto has given fans a preview of the villains in the upcoming film, The Beekeeper 2. The original Beekeeper, directed by David Ayer and starring Jason Statham, came out in 2024. It followed Adam Clay, a retired assassin, who is forced back into action when a scam affects someone he cares about. Josh Hutcherson played the antagonist, Derek Danforth, in the first movie.
Jason Statham is back for The Beekeeper 2, and this time, director Timo Tjahjanto is taking charge. Tjahjanto recently told The Direct that the movie will feature a large number of villains, and he intends for them to be surprising and diverse – that was a key goal for him when he signed on to direct.
Tjahjanto was also impressed with the script for The Beekeeper 2 and said he’s very excited for audiences to see the Amazon MGM Studios film.
I’m really excited about it! The script is fantastic, and we’re introducing a lot of new villains in the movie. What makes a film like Beekeeper so good – and what we’re aiming for in the sequel – is having villains who are unpredictable and really stand out.
The director hinted that the next Beekeeper movie will have a visual style inspired by anime and manga.
In addition to Jason Statham and Hunter Hutcherson, the film The Beekeeper featured a supporting cast including Emmy Raver-Lampman, Minnie Driver, Bobby Naderi, David Witts, Taylor James, Michael Epp, Jemma Redgrave, Phylicia Rashad, Enzo Cilenti, Don Gilet, Megan Le, and Jeremy Irons.
Released in January 2024, the movie earned $162.6 million in ticket sales, making it a significant success considering its $40 million production cost.
Critics generally liked The Beekeeper (giving it a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes), but audiences loved it even more (with a 92% score). While some critics thought the story wasn’t particularly strong, many praised Jason Statham’s performance as an action hero in the film.
Jason Statham will team up again with director David Ayer—who directed his previous film—in the 2025 action thriller, A Working Man. Throughout his career, Statham has starred in many popular movies, including The Transporter, The Italian Job, The Expendables, Fast & Furious 6, Spy, The Meg, and Hobbs & Shaw.
Jason Statham will be back for The Beekeeper 2, but he won’t be alone. Janelle Raver-Lampman and Dustin Naderi will return as FBI agents Verona Parker and Matt Wiley, alongside actors Penelope Redgrave as President Jessica Danforth and Charles Dance as Wallace Westwyld. Joining the cast are Yara Shahidi, known from Grown-ish, Pom Klementieff from the Mission: Impossible films, and professional wrestler Adam Copeland.
Tjahjanto, known for directing the movie Nobody 2, will direct a new film based on a screenplay by Umair Aleem. Jason Statham, Chris Long, and Kurt Wimmer are producing the project.
Production on The Beekeeper 2 finished in late 2025. The director described the experience as amazing and commended the cast and crew for their dedication.
Although there’s no official release date yet, The Beekeeper 2 is currently expected to come out sometime in late 2026 or 2027, with Jason Statham returning as Adam Clay.
