Jaws’ notorious NES adaptation is coming to the PS5 in 2026, courtesy of Limited Run Games.
So, a few different versions of the game will be available in stores soon, and we’ll take a closer look at those in a moment. But first, let’s talk more about the game itself.
This game first came out in 1987, published by LJN. While the credits say it was made by Atlus, the development was actually handled by Westone. (Interestingly, Westone also created Milano’s Odd Job Collection for the PlayStation, which we took a look at this week.)
The game is actually quite interesting, but infamously undercooked.
You’ll navigate a boat across the ocean from a bird’s-eye view. When you encounter enemies, the game will switch to a classic side-scrolling shooting mode.
Use your harpoon to defeat enemies and collect currency, which you can then use to improve your equipment.
You’ll eventually encounter Jaws and be able to reduce his health. After you’ve weakened him, you’ll get a single chance to defeat him in a close-up, first-person view, finishing the campaign.
The original game is coming to PS5 with modern features like save states, Trophy support, and the ability to rewind gameplay, making it even more enjoyable.
The developer is also creating a modified version of the game called Jaws: Enhanced Edition, and Limited Run’s website details its new features.
- Massively expanded, multi-chapter adventure filled with nods and homages to all four Jaws films
- New quests and objectives
- New abilities and weapons for your boat and diver alike
- More challenging enemies, and more ways to deal with them
- A robust realization of the NES game’s role-playing elements and inspirations
As we mentioned before, physical copies will be available for pre-order from December 19th, 2025, to January 18th, 2026.
They are:
Standard Edition ($34.99)
- Physical copy of the game
- 8-page Booklet
Bigger Boat Edition ($99.99)
- Physical copy of the game
- Everything included in the Retro Edition of the game
- Nintendo Entertainment System-inspired box
- Game soundtrack on a physically pressed CD
- Pin badge Jaws keychain
- Pixelated shark lamp
There’s no word on a release date, but the game’s due out in 2026.
