Jay Cutler Reports to Jail for DUI Sentence

Jay Cutler is kicking off his time behind bars.

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon started a four-day jail sentence on September 29th at the Williamson County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee. Online records show this followed his guilty plea to a misdemeanor DUI charge stemming from an arrest in October 2024. He was arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to jail records, Jay was formally booked into custody at 5:34 p.m. local time. He had arrived at the jail several hours earlier.

Besides his jail sentence, the 42-year-old-father to Camden, 13, Jaxon, 11, and Saylor, 9, with his former wife Kristin Cavallari-must also complete a year of supervised probation. He’s also required to attend a DUI safety course and pay a $350 fine.

Let me tell you about what happened with Jay. On October 17, 2024, he was involved in a small car accident and subsequently arrested. The police report states that when officers arrived, the other driver told them Jay rear-ended his vehicle. Then, allegedly, Jay offered him money and tried to leave the scene. It’s a reminder that even minor incidents can have serious consequences, and handling things properly is always the best course of action. It’s important to always remain calm and cooperate with authorities. You can find more information about responsible driving on websites like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to a statement from the Franklin Police Department reported by NBC 5 Chicago, officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol while speaking with Cutler. They also observed that Cutler was slurring his speech and had bloodshot eyes. Cutler declined to perform field sobriety tests, and officers obtained a blood sample via a search warrant at a nearby hospital.

Jay initially told officers, according to a sworn statement TopMob News obtained when he was arrested, that he hadn’t had any alcohol. He later admitted to having “a little bit.”

Jay eventually admitted guilt to a single charge of driving under the influence (DUI), which is a misdemeanor. NBC 5 Chicago reported, based on information from authorities, that he was also initially charged with not driving carefully enough to prevent an accident and violating implied consent laws. Additionally, police discovered a loaded handgun and rifle in his vehicle, leading to a charge of possessing a weapon while intoxicated. However, this charge was dropped after he gave up the firearm.

Although Jay hasn’t commented publicly on his arrest, his former wife, Kristin, recently discussed their relationship and how they were managing to raise their three children together shortly before the incident.

During the Oct. 1, 2024, episode of her Let’s Be Honest podcast, Kristin explained that her childcare arrangement has changed since last fall when she was dating. She shared, “I was still doing split custody with my ex and had every other week off from my kids.” She continued, “So, I’m really happy and really content having my life right now being about my kids and my work.”

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when K.Cav and the Chicago Bears quarterback first caught everyone’s attention back in 2010. It all started after they met for the first time following one of his football games. A source told TopMob News at the time that they really hit it off. Apparently, he was completely smitten with her, and she thought he was pretty cute too!

In her book, Balancing in Heels, The Hills star recalls the beginning of their relationship: “We first spent time together a couple of nights later, and things quickly became very passionate. I would fly back to Chicago at least every two weeks to see him. When we were separated, we were always texting, and he would send me incredibly sweet love letters. He was the strong, masculine man I was looking for, but he also had a very tender, romantic side.”

After only eight months of dating, Cutler proposed. However, the engagement didn’t last long, and Cavallari ended things, with the pair even sending back the presents they’d received as gifts.

She recalls a feeling that things weren’t as they should be, writing in her 2016 book, “A few things needed to change, and I knew the only way Jay would understand how serious I was, was if I ended the relationship.”

Then in the fall of 2011, Kristin and Jay are back together—and engaged!

“It was really spontaneous,” the future bride told TopMob News about how they got back together. “I was at the airport, heading out of Chicago. We’d been together for a while, and we were texting. Somehow, the idea of getting married just came up – like, ‘Should we get married?’ We both said, ‘Yeah, sure.’ Then he mailed my ring to me. So, it actually sat at my house for a couple of weeks before I finally put it on.”

In Aug. 2012, Kristin and Jay welcome their first child together, a baby boy named Camden Jack.

Yes, they did! Kristin and Jay got married in Nashville in June 2013, surrounded by their closest friends and family.

It’s a boy! In May 2014, Kristin welcomed her son, Jaxon Wyatt. She shared her pregnancy experience with TopMob News, saying, “I feel fortunate. Both times I’ve been pregnant have been quite easy, though I’ve been very tired. It’s just something where I could sleep all day, every day, but I’m starting to feel better now that I’m in my second trimester.”

More than a year later in Nov. 2015, the proud parents welcome daughter Saylor James

Kristin and Jay are overjoyed!” a source revealed. “They celebrated with loved ones – friends and family. Kristin is incredibly happy to be welcoming her baby girl and expanding her family. Jaxon and Camden are really excited to become big brothers. She’s doing well and feeling fantastic!

Kristen openly discusses the difficulties she and Jay faced in their marriage, explaining that therapy “100 percent” helped them save their relationship.

Jay and I are very honest with each other in our relationship. It’s not perfect, she tells Wake Up With Taylor on SiriusXM. We’re actively working on things, and we’re currently in therapy.

Kristin’s brother, Michael Cavallari, passed away in 2015. As the one-year anniversary of his death neared, the CEO of Uncommon James told TopMob News that Jay had been a huge support to her during this difficult time.

Oh my gosh, it’s been such an emotional time, a total roller coaster! I’d be so dishonest if I said it hasn’t been incredibly hard. She told me she’s going to spend the actual day with her family, which I’m so glad about – hopefully that will give her some peace. She says just *talking* about everything is the most helpful thing, and I’m so happy she has such an amazing support system. She’s so lucky to have her immediate family, and especially Jay and her parents, always there for her. Honestly, hearing her talk about them makes me feel so much better too! It’s just… everything.

On TopMob’s Very Cavallari, Kristin and Jay open up their Nashville home and lives to the cameras. The reality show follows the highs and lows of their relationship, and they don’t shy away from discussing any aspect of their marriage.

Kristin has a serious falling out with her close friend, Kelly Henderson, after accusations arise that Kelly had an affair with Jay.

During the second season, many people on social media speculated that Jay and Kelly were having an affair. However, she remembers thinking, Very Cavallari, that it was never true. “It wasn’t the claims themselves that bothered me,” she explains, “but how Kelly handled the situation.”

As a longtime follower, it was so lovely to see Kristin and Jay enjoying what looked like a perfect family vacation in the Bahamas with their kids! From what I could tell on their Instagram, everything seemed wonderful – they really appeared to be having the time of their lives. It was bittersweet, though, knowing it was their last trip together as a couple. Honestly, I was hoping things weren’t as bad as the news later revealed.

On April 26, 2020, the celebs take to Instagram to announce their decision to divorce.

Kristin explained that they and her partner are simply growing apart. She asked for privacy as they work through this challenging time for their family, stating, “We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.”

The former couple posted the same message on Instagram: “The world is full of users. 10 years. Can’t break that.” But, a source told TopMob News that their relationship hasn’t changed. “They are friends and both currently single. They’ll always support each other,” the insider explained.
