Jay Leno Shares Update on Wife Mavis Leno Amid Her Dementia Battle

The comedian spoke about his experience managing his wife’s finances and care after she was diagnosed with severe dementia and he was legally appointed to handle her affairs over a year ago.

In a recent interview with People magazine, 75-year-old Jay explained that while he appreciates people’s sympathy, he’s doing alright. He said, ‘I understand why people feel sorry for me, because I know a lot of others are going through tough times, but I’m okay.’

Even after receiving a diagnosis, Mavis, the well-known former host of The Tonight Show, has remained positive about the situation.

As he noted, “My wife is fighting dementia and all that, but it’s not cancer.”

He said he really enjoys spending time with her and they always have fun together. He added that they just go with the flow and enjoy themselves.

Jay was happy to support Mavis, who is 79 years old, with both her emotional and financial needs, despite being unsure of what the future holds.

He acknowledged the next couple of years would be challenging, but remained optimistic. He wasn’t dwelling on the difficulties and felt grateful he could provide care for her.

Television personality Bob Eubanks, who has been married to Mavis since 1980, began legal proceedings in January 2024 to manage her finances, according to documents obtained by TopMob News. Later, in a court filing about three months later, Mavis’s lawyer stated that she was experiencing cognitive decline, but still remained personable and able to communicate.

A court officially appointed a conservator for Mavis in April 2024. The judge overseeing the case commented that Mavis was receiving excellent care.

The judge reassured Jay, saying, “You’re handling things well, and I know this isn’t easy.”
