Jean Smart Reveals She Broke Her Kneecap “in Half” On 4th of July

Sugarbaker and Associates might need to branch out into landscaping work.

Originally, the ex-interior designer, Jean Smart, experienced an unpleasant encounter with the uneven roads of New York. Nearly a month following the revelation that the actress from Designing Women hurt her knee in the city, she divulged the details of the mishap.

Jean, aged 73, shared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on August 7 that she visited Macy’s to pick out a charming Fourth of July ensemble for herself. Later, while trying to catch a taxi outside, she spotted one and exclaimed, ‘Ah!’ unintentionally tripping over an obstacle in her excitement.

At the moment when she wasn’t aware of what caused her to stumble, Jean – who was accompanied by her late husband Richard Gilliland and their sons Connor, aged 35, and Forest, aged 17 – observed that the fall had fractured her kneecap completely. Following this incident, she underwent surgery promptly, leading her to pause her one-woman Broadway show, titled ‘Call Me Izzy’, for a duration of two weeks.

Despite the “Hacks” actor being in the process of recovery following the accident, she acknowledged that the experience remained overpowering.

While reclining, she found herself thinking, “Oh dear, not now! Please, nobody snap a photo,” she playfully remarked. Later, as I was waiting for the ambulance on the street, another person stumbled over the same obstacle. Upon arriving at the emergency room in the hospital, I made sure to inform the nurse about it.

The unexpected obstruction on the path left several individuals taken aback, as it was noted by Jean’s nurse that they had assisted some patients who had tripped at the very same spot. Given this information, Connor realized that modifications were necessary.

The six-time Emmy award winner shared that their eldest child had penned a complaint letter, which was promptly addressed and resolved, as he enthusiastically declared. “Bravo, New York!” was his response.

In my fervent admiration, I’ve been closely following Jean’s journey of resilience. Initially, she bravely took the stage on Broadway with the aid of crutches and a cane. As time passed, she transitioned to wearing a leg brace, even performing seated in a chair. Now, as she steadily regains her strength, I’ve noticed a shift in the audience’s reaction towards both her determination and her innovative use of these tools to overcome her challenges.

Are you all right? Is there anything we can help with? Would you like to sit down?” This shift in reaction makes one feel more mature or grown-up.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I found myself in an unexpected situation following a high-energy wrestling match with fellow WWE sensation, Piper Niven, last July. During our intense encounter, a seemingly harmless elbow slam caused my breast implant to shift ever so slightly from its original position.

She assured her sister Bella Garcia at that moment, ‘Everything is alright.’ She added, ‘We’ll sort it out eventually. When I’m free from my recent divorce, I’ll return to the doctor and we’ll ensure these girls (referring to herself and Bella) look fantastic. The future plans for these girls involve some action, so it’s important that we present ourselves well.’

In 2014, the actress who played a key role in “12 Years a Slave” was diagnosed with fibroids, which are non-cancerous growths that can form within or near the uterus. Interestingly enough, this diagnosis came in the same year she won an Oscar for her remarkable performance in that movie.

But it wasn’t until the year 2025 that she revealed her diagnosis, sharing on Instagram that she had been enduring in secret for over ten years.

In her sharing, she mentioned that during puberty, women are often led to believe that experiencing pain during their menstrual cycle is normal and inevitable. She emphasized that many women endure this pain individually, as it significantly impacts their daily lives.

In July 2025, the lead singer of Daisy Jones & The Six announced that she was admitted to the hospital because of a hernia – a condition where there’s a tear in the muscle wall, often occurring in the stomach or thigh region, which was brought on by wearing skin-tight trousers.

She wrote on X, “You don’t post on Twitter anymore,” and added, “Remember when I wore such tight pants 6 months ago that I needed surgery? I’ve been hesitant to share this with you because I was afraid.

In April 2025, a former star of “Beverly Hills, 90210” announced that he was recuperating following an appendix surgery, which had almost ruptured.

A week ago, Brian mentioned in an Instagram post that he’d been experiencing abdominal discomfort. This developed into a serious issue, leading him to visit the hospital emergency room. It turned out he had a perforated appendix, though it hadn’t completely ruptured yet.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

Adam Devine revealed that the injuries he suffered from being struck by a cement truck at the age of 11 continue to impact him even today.

In a 2025 episode of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine stated it had been extremely difficult for him, describing his situation as something akin to a living nightmare. He explained that he has experienced spasms throughout his body and was informed by doctors that his condition was severe enough that death was imminent – within the last year, in fact.

He observed that pain is intermittent, expressing it as, “There’s something off and out of whack about my body.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share an update about one of our beloved Bachelor Nation alums. He recently revealed his harrowing experience, stating that he ended up in the hospital, moving on all fours due to intense back pain. This agonizing condition was exacerbated during a camping trip with a friend in an RV.

In this moment, from my knees to my toes, I’m experiencing an unusual tingling sensation, which is quite extraordinary,” he explained during his podcast episode in March 2025 titled Trading Secrets. “To clarify, let me say that approximately two to four weeks ago, I was likely squatting around 295 pounds. At present, I’m unable to perform a single-leg squat without losing balance. It’s as if I’ve suffered some form of stroke or similar incident.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

In March 2025, Gina Kirschenheiter from “Real Housewives of Orange County” revealed that her former spouse, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack, yet fortunately, he managed to pull through the harrowing experience.

In March 2025, the main actor from the show “30 Rock” had a sudden health issue during a New York Knicks basketball match at Madison Square Garden, causing him to be transported outside the arena in a stretcher.

On the next day, the comedian took to social media to reveal that he had been affected by food poisoning but was already recovering.

In February 2025, the former star of Even Stevens disclosed that she had been wounded by a gunshot to the face during a trip to go clay pigeon shooting in celebration of her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.

Another person at our gathering discharged their weapon recklessly and accidentally struck me in the face,” she posted on Instagram. “@thebrendanrooney swiftly responded, evaluated my injuries, and transported me to the hospital. I was hit in five spots, one being just a tiny fraction away from hitting my right eye directly.

The actor from “Kim Possible” added, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye and it isn’t safe to remove it surgically yet. My doctors will keep an eye on me (I can see fine for now).

The actress expressed her gratitude for still being alive. She then shared how much she cherishes her daughters, husband, family, and friends, stating that she would hug them whenever she gets the opportunity. She had a moment where she felt like she was reliving her life in an instant, and this experience emphasized to her the fragility of life, encouraging everyone to appreciate the people around them as life can unexpectedly change.

Amy Schumer is grateful that despite the internet often being unkind, in this instance it provided her with valuable insights. In an episode of Call Her Daddy from January 2025, she recalled feeling overwhelmed by criticism about her “puffier” face. However, medical professionals chimed in on the comments section, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome due to elevated cortisol levels or steroid injections. Upon realizing that she had been receiving steroid injections for her scars from surgeries like a breast reduction and C-section, Amy connected the dots and understood that it was causing Cushing syndrome, a condition she would not have identified without the intense online scrutiny. Now, Amy is relieved to know she’s healthy, as she shared in a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter.

During a game in December 2024, an AHL player got a deep cut from another player’s skate and required 25 stitches to heal. After his son had completely recovered, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald expressed his relief to ESPN, stating, “We were incredibly fortunate. I wouldn’t wish that experience on any parent.

Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying incident in March 2022 during breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber, when she began exhibiting symptoms similar to a stroke. As she recounted on YouTube a month later, she found herself unable to respond or speak properly, and her facial features started drooping on one side. Despite the temporary resolution of these symptoms, Hailey was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Upon examination, doctors discovered that Hailey had suffered a small blood clot in her brain, known as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further tests at UCLA revealed that she had a hole in her heart called patent foramen ovale (PFO), which allowed the blood clot to travel into her heart, escape through the hole, and reach her brain.

Hailey underwent a PFO closure procedure and reported feeling well afterward. The incident served as a reminder of the importance of seeking medical attention when experiencing unusual symptoms.

In the same year, Hailey went through a health scare, Justin Bieber also faced a health challenge – specifically, he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This rare condition led to temporary facial paralysis for the “Baby” singer, causing him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour. He explained in an Instagram video that the virus attacking the nerve in his ear and facial nerves caused the paralysis on one side of his face. The condition made it difficult for him to blink, smile, or move one nostril, resulting in full paralysis on that side. Justin shared that eating became progressively harder due to this condition, but eventually, the paralysis subsided. Hailey confirmed on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better after the unexpected situation.

In April 2023, Jamie Foxx initially chose not to disclose details about his hospitalization. However, during his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, he shared the events that transpired. He narrated an incident in Atlanta where he experienced a severe headache and asked for an aspirin, but before he could get it, he passed out and lost consciousness for about 20 days.

Upon being examined by a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home, his sister Deidra Dixon became concerned and took him to a hospital. The medical team there revealed that Jamie had suffered a brain bleed which led to a stroke.

Twenty days after the operation, Jamie woke up on May 4 in a wheelchair and was unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. In expressing his gratitude, he stated, “I just want to say that I appreciate every prayer because I needed every prayer.

Emilia Clarke filmed intense battle scenes for Game of Thrones, but in 2019, she penned an essay in The New Yorker titled “My Life’s Real Battle.”

In her own words, at the gym, she was struck with a severe headache that led her to the restroom where she vomited profusely. The pain, she described, was intense and worsening. Somehow, she knew her brain had been injured.

She was rushed to the hospital for a scan, and the results were grim: she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a severe type of stroke caused by bleeding in the space surrounding the brain. She had an aneurysm, a ruptured artery.

Emilia underwent immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, and the pain was unbearable, she recalled. During her recovery period, she struggled with aphasia, speaking nonsensical words.

A week later, the aphasia subsided, and she left the hospital after a month’s stay. However, in 2013, during a follow-up scan, she discovered that the growth had doubled in size, requiring another surgery.

“When they woke me,” she wrote, “I was screaming in pain. The procedure had failed. I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it clear that my chances of survival were slim if they didn’t operate again.”

Fortunately, Emilia revealed, she is now completely healed and in perfect health.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it like this:

In my personal journey, I, Cori Broadus – Snoop Dogg’s daughter – am deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my family. In January 2024, I experienced a severe stroke that left me in need of immediate care. Reaching out to my loved ones, I shared the news via text and a picture, and they swiftly came to my aid.

Due to additional health complications related to lupus, my hospital stay was prolonged beyond my initial expectations. My kidneys were failing, and there were several other medical issues to address. However, with their constant support, I persevered.

Today, I am pleased to report that I’m on the road to recovery. Although I faced challenges with motor skills during my recuperation, overall, I am doing well.

I’m fortunate to have such a caring and resilient family by my side, and I can’t thank them enough for their unwavering support throughout this challenging time.

During her twenties, the health of Shailene Woodley wasn’t smooth sailing. It eventually reached a point where she began losing her hearing, struggled to walk more than five minutes without needing long periods of rest, and found nearly everything she ate painful for her stomach. Speaking on the September 2024 episode of the SHE MD Podcast, she explained, “I was dealing with a combination of issues, diagnoses, and advice from different doctors.”

To find answers, Shailene, who has a background in holistic health and herbalism, sought help from both mainstream medical professionals and independent healers. This quest for understanding took ten years.

“During that decade,” the actress from Big Little Lies explained, “my physical discomfort led to other issues such as fear of food due to the pain it caused. This then developed into mental struggles like body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and insecurities about my own safety and comfort in my own body.”

After addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene is now feeling much improved. “My journey eventually resolved itself physically,” she shared, “and I’m thrilled to say that I am healthy now.
