Jelly Roll Compares Sex Before Weight Loss to “Playing Twister”

Jelly Roll’ssex life hasn’t always been fun and games.

The singer of “Son of a Sinner” revealed that realizing his weight was harming his intimacy with his wife, Bunnie Xo, was a major reason he decided to lose 200 pounds.

Jelly Roll recently shared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that he finally understood the pain his addiction had caused his family and how deeply it had affected his intimacy with his wife. He described marrying a very attractive, blonde woman, using colorful language to emphasize her appearance.

Joe, I married an amazing woman – the type who could make me smile even when I was sad. But I’d gotten so large that intimacy became incredibly difficult. It was awkward and uncomfortable, like trying to contort my body into different positions just to make things work. I was constantly asking if things felt okay, and it was just… a really bad situation.

Jelly Roll, who has two children – 17-year-old Bailee Ann and 9-year-old Noah – from past relationships, shared that his weight affected more than just his relationship with his wife, Bunnie Xo; it impacted his entire family.

He continued, saying he often thought about his son. His brother would have to play football with the boy because he, the speaker, was too large to do so. He realized this inability was a direct result of his addiction and the impact it had on his family.

After understanding how his health was affecting his family, the singer of “Halfway to Hell” decided to get in shape, starting with a commitment to exercise and a simple walk.

He remembered telling his family, ‘I’m finished with all the lies – to you and to myself. I said I was going to take this walk, and I am going to take this walk.’

And when he returned home from the excursion, Jelly Roll was greeted with a welcoming committee.

As I drove up the driveway towards the hill, I saw my whole family waiting, cheering and clapping. For years, I’d been telling them lies about losing weight and never actually followed through. I hadn’t given them any reason to believe I would change or keep my promises.

The singer of “Wild Ones” explained, “They really didn’t have to be there supporting me, and that realization hit me hard.”

As for how Jelly Roll is feeling about his weight loss these days?

He admitted he never expected to lose the weight, adding, “I feel fantastic, Joe. Really, really good!”

Bunnie Xo and Jelly Roll’s relationship started in Las Vegas. Bunnie shared on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast that she first met the singer in August 2015 while he was performing at the Las Vegas Country Saloon, before he became famous. He was living in a van at the time, and the show had only about 20 people in the audience.

Despite their initial differences – Bunnie admitted he wasn’t her usual type and he was a big Taylor Swift fan – they felt an instant connection. As Bunnie described it, it felt like finding a missing piece of herself.

However, a romance didn’t begin immediately. Both were dealing with other things – Bunnie was in an unhealthy relationship, and Jelly Roll was focused on his own life. They reconnected in October 2015, and Bunnie quickly fell for him.

After Bunnie’s ex-partner went to prison, she asked a friend to give Jelly Roll her number. He began calling and texting her for advice about his daughter, Bailee. Their connection shifted from friendly to romantic in July 2016 when he returned to Vegas to film videos and they spent the night together.

Bunnie remembers a humorous moment from that night: despite being very drunk, she was trying to rush things, while Jelly Roll calmly asked about her five-year plan. After discussing their goals, he agreed to move forward with a relationship.

Oh my gosh, they actually did it! I was SO thrilled when I heard they got married just a month after they started dating! Bunnie told the guys on Bussin’ With The Boys that it was a Vegas wedding in August 2016, and they even followed through with this crazy five-year plan they made! She said they literally checked off everything, and the very last thing was finally getting their own house! It’s just…goals! And it doesn’t stop there! Bunnie always wanted her own podcast, and Jelly Roll told Howard Stern that when she left the adult entertainment industry, he asked her what she was passionate about, and she immediately said a talk show! She launched Dumb Blonde later in 2019, which is amazing! And get this – she actually used the money she earned to help Jelly Roll chase his dreams! She invested in his Addiction Kills album in 2017 and even helped him with getting custody of his daughter! She’s seriously the most supportive partner ever, and I’m obsessed with their love story!

Jelly Roll’s daughter, Bailee, was born in 2008 while he was in prison for drug dealing. He credits Bailee with saving his life, even though she was very young at the time. Bailee remembers her father entering her life around age two, when he was starting his music career and living in a van. Although he admits to not being very present as a father initially, he fought for full custody of Bailee when her mother struggled with addiction.

Interestingly, it was Jelly Roll’s then-girlfriend, Bunnie, who funded the legal battle to gain custody. This situation led both of them to re-examine their own lives and habits. Bunnie questioned whether they were fit to raise Bailee given their own struggles with substance abuse, and ultimately decided to get sober.

Bunnie fully embraced a maternal role, and in 2024, for Bailee’s sixteenth birthday, she expressed gratitude to Jelly Roll for allowing her to be the mother she always wanted to be, and to Bailee for the healing lessons she’d learned over the past eight years.

Jelly Roll and Bunnie welcomed their son, Noah, around a week before their wedding in August 2016, while Jelly Roll was also navigating a custody case for his daughter, Bailee. He shared his hopes for Noah on Facebook, writing, “God Bless this Child to be everything I am not!” and expressing a wish that neither of his children would suffer for his past mistakes.

Over the years, Jelly Roll and Bunnie have generally kept Noah’s life private, but they occasionally share small updates. In July 2023, Bunnie posted a TikTok featuring Noah, asking him about his favorite things like soccer and playing at the beach. She emphasized that she got permission from Noah’s mother before posting.

Bunnie and Jelly Roll have a good relationship with Noah’s mother, whom Bunnie describes as a wonderful person and essential support, especially when Jelly Roll is touring. Bunnie cherishes her role as Noah’s stepmother, expressing on Instagram in October 2024 that watching him grow up is a privilege and that she’s grateful for both Noah and his mother.

Jelly Roll and Bunnie separated two years after getting married. While they haven’t officially said why, Jelly Roll admitted to being unfaithful. He shared on a podcast that having an affair was a low point in his life, especially because he deeply loved his wife.

Despite the difficulties, the couple worked to save their relationship and got back together later in 2018. Jelly Roll said he put in a lot of effort to rebuild trust, and it ultimately made them stronger. He wishes the affair hadn’t happened, but is proud of the couple they are today.

Bunnie shared on TikTok that their 2018 breakup and eventual reconciliation led them on an incredible journey. They finally fully committed to each other, fulfilling promises they made when they first met in 2016. She described their initial struggles as necessary for building a stronger, more solid foundation for their relationship.

As Jelly Roll’s popularity grew, he and Bunnie made their red carpet debut as a couple at the 2022 CMA Awards. In the documentary Jelly Roll: Save Me, Bunnie described them as “the Addams Family of country music—we don’t really fit in, but here we are.”

Jelly Roll and Bunnie celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary in 2023 by renewing their vows. Bunnie fondly remembered their original wedding day, recalling how Jelly Roll promised her things would get better and that they would overcome challenges together. He kept that promise.

Looking back, Bunnie described the past seven years as a difficult but rewarding journey. They worked hard to heal from past traumas, build a healthy relationship, and create a stable home for Bunnie’s daughter, Bailee. Through everything, they faced challenges together with strength and optimism.

Bunnie lovingly described Jelly Roll as her soulmate, safe haven, and best friend, praising him as a truly exceptional man.

Jelly Roll and Bunnie continue to have a loving relationship, and she’s even been the inspiration behind some of his music, like the songs “Woman” and “Kill a Man.” He told Entertainment Tonight that she’s “the best,” and he struggled to write a sincere love song without sounding cheesy. He wanted to express how deeply he feels for her while still being true to himself. He explained that he doesn’t have eyes for anyone else and wanted a song to reflect that vulnerability. The couple also appeared together in the music videos for “Wheels Fall Off” and “Lonely Road,” which featured Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox.

I’m such a devoted fan of Jelly Roll and his incredible journey, and I adore how supportive he and Bunnie are of each other! I was so touched by what Bunnie shared about him, especially when she called him ‘my sweet husband the visionary.’ It’s true – this success wasn’t overnight; it’s been twenty years of hard work! She beautifully described how they went from days wondering if anyone was listening to nights playing for packed arenas. It really resonated with me when she talked about how he pours his heart into his songwriting, creating music that truly heals people, filling the cracks in their souls and making them feel understood. It’s just…powerful. She calls him ‘Papabear’ and says his voice is an instrument of healing with the world as his choir, and it’s so sweet! I love how much they lift each other up. Jelly Roll is equally supportive of Bunnie, celebrating her success with her podcast and social media, and saying seeing her inspire other women fills his heart with joy. They’re a perfect match, and it’s amazing to witness their love and support for one another.

Bunnie Xo is fiercely protective of her husband, Jelly Roll, and won’t tolerate anyone attacking him. She recently spoke out about the hurtful online comments he received regarding his weight before losing over 200 pounds, explaining that he was forced to step away from the internet due to the bullying. While Jelly Roll tries to hide his pain, Bunnie says the comments deeply affect him. She strongly refuted the idea that celebrities should simply ‘handle’ online abuse, emphasizing that it’s never okay to bully someone, as you don’t know what they’re going through mentally. Bunnie vowed to defend those who are targeted and promised to fight back against anyone who tries to bully her or her family.

Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnie, have been publicly sharing their journey to expand their family. After Jelly Roll mentioned they were considering having a baby, Bunnie revealed they’ve been undergoing IVF treatments. In a June 2024 Instagram post, she explained they decided to share their experiences because of their openness with fans, and acknowledged the challenges they’ve already faced. Despite the difficulties, they remain optimistic about growing their family. They’ve been consulting with IVF doctors and exploring all possibilities. Bunnie shared that while they hadn’t originally planned to have more children, their feelings changed this year, and they now long to have a child together to add to their family, which already includes Bailee and Noah. Bunnie also discussed considering surrogacy on her podcast, Dumb Blonde, explaining that she is unable to carry a child herself due to health risks.
