Jenna Bush Hager was thrilled to see Savannah Guthrie again while Savannah is away from the show Today.
When Savannah returned to the morning show after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing in January, Jenna shared a touching account of their reunion live on air during the show.
Savannah returned to her workspace at 30 Rock, and Sheinelle Jones and I had the chance to see her this morning,” she said. “She was her usual warm self, taking the time to speak with and hug everyone – the whole crew included.”
Savannah, who first appeared on Today in 2011, intends to return as a co-host of the morning show sometime in the future, although a specific date hasn’t been set.
Jenna said that despite how difficult it is, she wants to come back to the show. It’s a place she considers home and where she feels incredibly loved and supported, and we’re all thrilled to have her back.
She said she wasn’t sure when her colleague would be back on the show, but she was really happy to have seen her and given her a hug.
As the search for Nancy goes on, Jenna shared that Savannah, 54, is finding strength in her faith and is grateful for the support from her coworkers and fans.
She said that Savannah feels all the love and prayers sent her way – the flowers, the pins, everything. She really relies on that support, so we’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s continued kindness, especially for Savannah, Annie, Cam, and their families. They mean the world to us, and she is so precious.

As someone who understands navigating grief and returning to life after loss, I was so touched by Savannah’s return to Today. It really resonated with me, especially knowing what she’s been through. It reminds me of my own journey last year after losing my husband, Uche, to glioblastoma. Seeing her back, even briefly, is a beautiful sign of strength and a positive step forward, and I wanted to add my voice to those offering support.
She reflected that she approaches situations like this differently now. While she wasn’t outwardly cheerful, she expressed pride in Savannah and was wholeheartedly supporting her, recognizing the immense courage it took for Savannah to simply be present with everyone.
She described the situation as still difficult—like being in the middle of a storm—but hopeful, noting a glimmer of positivity. Having her visit and being able to embrace her felt like progress. While the future remains uncertain, she views any positive step forward as something to be celebrated.

Sheinelle, who became Jenna’s co-host on the fourth hour last December, shared that she hugged Jenna and told her, “We’re so glad you’re here, and everyone loves you. We’ll be here for you whenever you’re ready.” She added that she felt optimistic they were making progress, whatever that may be.
She stressed the importance of continuing to support her loved one. They need to keep showing her love and offering comfort until she’s able to return.
Since Nancy disappeared, Savannah has been in Arizona with her siblings, Annie and Camron, asking the public for help finding their 84-year-old mother. Authorities are still searching, but have warned it could be a long process.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos assured the New York Times on February 13th that the search for Nancy will continue until both she and the person responsible are found.

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.

Police confirmed to Today that Nancy, age 84, was reported missing by her family on February 1st. A friend noticed she hadn’t been at church that morning and let her family know. After searching her property for about an hour, her children contacted the authorities around noon to report her disappearance.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps of the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.
We usually don’t need to involve the sheriff in situations like this, but the details emerging from the house are deeply troubling,” he explained to reporters on February 2nd. “This case was particularly unusual based on what officers described and what we discovered at the scene.
“This isn’t how things usually work,” Nanos explained. “Normally, our homicide detectives are called out when someone dies. But in this case, we sent them based solely on what the surveyors reported.”

After looking into what happened, officials said they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.
As a lifestyle expert who often speaks to community safety, I want to share an update from the recent investigation. After carefully examining the scene, we’ve confirmed it is, in fact, a crime scene. We’re really counting on the public’s help right now. This community has always been incredible at coming together to solve difficult cases, and I’m hopeful we can rely on that support again.
The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had trouble walking on her own – she couldn’t walk even a short distance without help – and this led him to suspect something wasn’t right about her disappearance.
He stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own. Evidence at the location suggests something else happened.”

The search for Nancy is still ongoing, and officials are concerned because she requires daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.
During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman is facing serious health problems and urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.
I’m just begging anyone out there who might have even the smallest piece of information – if you’ve seen or heard anything at all – please come forward. Seriously, please call 911. We can’t afford another heartbreaking outcome; we really need your help to prevent that.
Although Nancy has had some health issues, Dr. Nanos highlighted that her mind remains sharp.
According to Dr. Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally sound and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s very alert and capable. The family wants to emphasize that she didn’t simply wander away, and any physical limitations are simply due to her age.
With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his wish for her to come home safely.
“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show shared how difficult this time is for her family.
Speaking for my family, I want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and messages we’ve received,” she told NBC’s morning show on February 2nd. “Our top priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.
She expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in the case and asked anyone with relevant information to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Once Savannah learned her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show quickly voiced their support publicly.
Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she and Nancy are personally close, saying, “We love Nancy.”
She continued, saying they were thinking of Savannah and her family and sending their prayers to them all.
Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.
She said she felt the show truly showcased the community at its finest when it asked viewers to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s department with any information related to the case, even if it seemed insignificant.
She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”
Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.
On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the department’s phone number, stating that she was missing.
Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, also responded to the surprising announcement by posting a heartwarming photo of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a brief message on Instagram from February 2nd, Hoda shared a red heart and prayer hands emoji.

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be worried.
Pima County Sheriff Nanos said at a press conference on February 2nd that he doesn’t believe there’s a current danger, but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and much work remains.
Savannah hasn’t appeared on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to ensure her well-being.
The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. Her security team has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out at this point.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.
Investigators now think the woman was taken from her home against her will, likely during the night, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Detectives are investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.
In a recent Instagram post from February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing, “We believe in the power of prayer, in coming together with love and hope, and in the goodness of humanity. Most importantly, we believe in God.”
Savannah continued, thanking everyone for keeping her mother, Nancy, in their thoughts and prayers. She described Nancy as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person, and asked for continued prayers, believing they would provide comfort and strength right now.
She added, “we need you.”
To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.
She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, ‘He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.’ She felt this message was timeless and universally relevant.
Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s house, which is now being treated as a crime scene.
Oh my gosh, they actually took samples! I was glued to the Today show on February 3rd, and the investigator said they’re hoping the DNA they got will be enough to finally figure out what – or who – they’re dealing with. Seriously, the thought of them getting a positive ID… I can barely breathe!
Two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos held a press conference to explain what had happened leading up to her disappearance.
According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., just about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained in a press conference on February 5th.
The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t pay for a subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the footage.
As a dedicated follower of the case, I learned from the sheriff that Nancy’s pacemaker app showed a connection issue with her phone at 2:28 a.m. Later, around 11:56 a.m., her family found she was missing, and they immediately called 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report it to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
About ten minutes after receiving the call, we dispatch our patrol teams to assess the situation. Once they arrive, we begin our response, sending in search and rescue along with detectives from different units.

On February 4th, Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they had written, hoping to reach their mother and anyone who might be holding her, asking for her safe return.
In a video posted to Instagram, the family stated they are doing everything possible and are willing to communicate. They emphasized the prevalence of manipulated media and urgently requested undeniable proof that their loved one is alive and in the possession of whoever has her.
She explained, “My mom is the center of our world and our safe place.” She’s very frail and constantly in pain, and unfortunately, she doesn’t have the medication she desperately needs to feel better and stay alive.
The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”
We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication, and we need to establish a way to connect so we can begin to resolve this.
During a press conference on February 5th, FBI special agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending hoax texts as part of an attempt to profit from the situation. Authorities are also taking a detailed ransom letter, which was shared with TMZ, very seriously. Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.
However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted a new video on Instagram suggesting they had received what they asked for.
Oh my gosh, she finally spoke! I saw the video, and she was holding Camron and Annie’s hands, and she said they just want their mom back! She practically begged whoever has her to please, please return her so they can all be together and celebrate. It’s so heartbreaking… she said that’s the only way they’ll ever find peace. I’m just praying this gets to the right person and they bring her home!
And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

On February 10th, investigators publicly shared surveillance images of a person they are looking into as part of the investigation.
Footage from a camera on Nancy’s property shows someone wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack walking up to the house. The person then appears to punch the camera, damaging it. Police had previously noted the camera was broken when they arrived at the scene.
For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images or videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort was necessary because recording devices had been removed. They were able to recover the video from data still stored in the systems’ background processes, according to a statement shared with TopMob News.
“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Following the FBI’s release of video showing someone approaching Nancy’s house, investigators shared details describing the suspect.
As a dedicated follower of this case, I’ve been keeping up with all the details released by the FBI. They recently shared on X that the person they’re looking for is a man, likely between 5’9″ and 5’10” tall with a fairly average build. A key detail from the video footage is that he was carrying a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack – it looks like a 25-liter size.
The FBI is now offering up to $100,000 – an increase from $50,000 – for information that helps them find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

After Nancy had been missing for over two weeks, Pima County Sheriff Nanos released a statement to explain who might be connected to the case.
In a statement on February 16th, authorities confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all brothers, sisters, and their spouses – have been ruled out as suspects in this case. They have been fully cooperative and are considered victims themselves.

The gloves discovered close to Nancy’s house didn’t seem to connect with the rest of the evidence in the case, according to police.
On March 2nd, Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated to KVOA, the local NBC station, that investigators initially thought a pair of gloves found about two miles from the victim’s home – and containing DNA evidence – were related to a restaurant. This was nearly three weeks after the gloves were discovered.
Although some people noticed the gloves in the doorbell footage looked similar to those worn by the suspect, Nanos dismissed this as just a guess. Investigators had already found the gloves’ owner – an employee at a local restaurant – and confirmed they weren’t connected to the crime.
