Jennifer Lawrence On The Funny Reactions Her Nephew Had When She Tried To Tell Him She Played Mystique In X-Men

Jennifer Lawrence is known for starring in many popular movies and franchises, including The Hunger Games and the X-Men series, where she played Mystique. More recently, she appeared in the adult comedy No Hard Feelings. She’s also received Oscar nominations and critical praise for her roles in films like Winter’s Bone, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy. But despite all her success, her nephew doesn’t seem to be very impressed!

Lawrence shared a funny story on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon about her nephew, Bear, when he was four years old. She loves Bear dearly, but when she used to tell him she played Mystique, he didn’t react very positively.

He’s really into the X-Men – seriously obsessed! I told him I like them too, but he insists on talking about the ‘real’ X-Men, and it’s incredibly annoying.

Jennifer Lawrence is a naturally funny actress, and this story shows off her ability to be both charming and playfully exasperated. It appears her nephew, Bear, sometimes didn’t seem to care much, and this became a recurring, amusing dynamic between them, as we saw on an episode of The Tonight Show.

Take a look at the clip, which has been running around again on Instagram, below.

Lawrence went to great lengths – even using a funnel to manage a medical issue – to create that character, but her nephew didn’t appreciate her effort at all. It’s a shame.

When Jennifer Lawrence was filming the Hunger Games, her dog, Bear, was often talked about. He even appears in the final scene of Mockingjay – Part 2, during Peeta and Katniss’s somewhat happy ending. Bear and Josh Hutcherson reportedly became good friends on set, and filming went smoothly.

However, Lawrence confessed that her nephew was upset when he learned he’d be visiting his aunt, fearing she would make him work again.

I was telling the producer about this, and she actually heard my son, Bear, make this little lip-trilling sound – he was clearly upset. He doesn’t seem to appreciate my work. You might know him – he was in The Hunger Games, playing my on-screen son in the final epilogue scene. Anyway, he’s coming to visit, and he asked me, ‘Dad, do I have to be in this one?’

It’s been a full ten years since Mockingjay – Part 2 was released – even Hutcherson was surprised! – so I imagine the story about Bear being shocked his aunt worked as a makeup artist on Marvel films isn’t being repeated as much anymore. However, it’s a memorable story that probably still gets brought up at family gatherings. It must be tough for him!
