Jennifer Lawrence & Robert Pattinson’s New Psychological Thriller Has Critics & Audiences Very Divided

The new film Die My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, is now playing in theaters, but reviews are varied. The movie is based on Adna Walsh’s 2012 novel of the same name and features Lawrence as Grace, a woman whose mental health struggles worsen due to the pressures of marriage and raising a family.

The Lynne Ramsay-directed film was well-received by critics after its debut at Cannes, earning a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, general audiences haven’t been as enthusiastic. With over 100 verified ratings, the audience score currently stands at 44%, which is Jennifer Lawrence’s lowest since the 2018 film Red Sparrow (51%).

The film Die My Love received a poor CinemaScore (D+), indicating that audiences were very split on whether they liked it. This isn’t the first time a Jennifer Lawrence film has gotten such a reaction; her movie Mother! also sharply divided viewers. Some critics have even suggested that Die My Love is similar in style and theme to the 2017 psychological horror film.

Graeme Guttman of ScreenRant highly praised the film Die My Love, giving it 8 out of 10 stars. He called the movie “strikingly beautiful,” noting that it honestly portrays the difficult aspects of love and motherhood that are often ignored, thanks to the willingness of Ramsay and Lawrence to be vulnerable.

Though critics generally found the movie ‘Grace’ to be both captivating and emotionally challenging, most viewers didn’t feel the same way. Many found the story confusing, feeling it lacked focus, moved too slowly, and was hard to follow.

Everyone agrees on one thing about the movie: the performances of Pattinson and Lawrence are excellent. Lawrence, in particular, is captivating, brilliantly portraying her character’s descent into madness throughout the entire film.

Jennifer Lawrence is already generating Oscar buzz, receiving nominations from both the British Independent Film Awards and the Gotham Independent Film Awards. She previously won an Academy Award for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

Alongside Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence, the film Die My Love stars Sissy Spacek, LaKeith Stanfield, and Nick Nolte.
