Jennifer Lopez’s Anaconda 2025 Cameo: Director Teases Sequel Potential

Okay, folks, buckle up because the ending of the new Anaconda is a doozy! Beyond Ice Cube’s welcome return, the film throws a major curveball with a Jennifer Lopez cameo. Yes, that Jennifer Lopez! It’s a clear signal they’re planning a sequel, and director Tom Gormican is already hinting at possibilities. For those who remember, JLo starred in the original 1997 film, playing a documentary filmmaker who, while looking for a lost tribe in the Amazon, quickly finds herself as prey for a seriously massive snake. It’s a fun nod to the past and definitely leaves you wanting more.

The new Anaconda film stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd as two friends experiencing a midlife crisis. They decide to pursue their filmmaking ambitions by traveling to the Amazon with two other friends to remake the original movie. Just like the characters in the first film, they quickly find themselves battling for survival against a massive, dangerous snake.

Before the film came out, Ash Crossan from ScreenRant spoke with Tom Gormican about Anaconda. Gormican shared that when he asked Jennifer Lopez about a possible cameo, her first concern was whether they were trying to mock the original movie. He quickly reassured her that wasn’t the intention at all.

Tom Gormican explained that the project was meant as a tribute to the original Anaconda, and when he told the actress that, she immediately agreed to participate. He and Jack were both thrilled to have her on board, as her involvement felt like a significant endorsement of their work.

The director, Gormican, revealed that Jennifer Lopez’s brief appearance in the new film is meant to lead into a possible sequel, which he jokingly referred to as “the sequel system.” While he’s eager to make another Anaconda movie, he emphasized that its future depends on whether enough people watch the current film to justify continuing the story and expanding on its ending.

Gormican acknowledged the idea of the sequel’s characters venturing off to reboot other Sony franchises as “interesting,” but he and co-writer Kevin Etten currently favor a story featuring a variety of villains, all under the ‘Anaconda’ banner.

Tom Gormican mentioned they’d discussed revisiting a childhood favorite movie, imagining something like a sequel to ‘Anaconda’ featuring various monsters. He jokingly suggested a title like ‘Anaconda 2: Sasquatch.’ While unsure if it would happen, he’d prefer a new ‘Anaconda’ film to be set in a city, avoiding another jungle location.

As mentioned before, Lopez was one of two well-known actors from the original Anaconda to appear in the new reboot. Ice Cube makes a cameo as himself in the final scene, rescuing the characters from the giant snake after they accidentally film a remake on a real movie set. Lopez also appears at the end as herself, offering to direct and star in an official sequel after watching their amateur version.

If Gormican and his team can make another Anaconda movie, it would be a unique achievement. While several films—like the fictional The Fall Guy and the fact-based Nouvelle Vague—have explored the world of filmmaking, none of them have actually resulted in a sequel to the movie they were about.

This would be Jennifer Lopez’s first time leading a sequel to a movie series she originally helped create. Aside from a brief appearance in the new Anaconda film, her only other sequels are the fourth and fifth Ice Age movies – she actually started her voice acting career with the fourth one. While there’s been some discussion about continuing her Netflix thriller The Mother, no official plans have been announced yet.

According to Gormican, whether or not we’ll see another Anaconda movie depends on how well the new film does in theaters. While it currently has a 49
