Jenny McCarthy is finally on the journey to healing after a particularly hard year.
Four months after first sharing her health struggles, including growths around her eyes, the former Playboy model explained on a recent podcast episode that the cause was mold exposure.
After months of surgeries and antibiotics, her doctor finally explained the source of her ongoing problems: “You have mold in your system, and that’s why you keep getting infections, aren’t healing, and are experiencing discharge.”
Jenny’s doctor explained that, due to her already weakened immune system, she was very likely to get sick from exposure to mycotoxins.
She explained that these toxins settle deep within the tissues of your gut and nasal passages, which she believes caused her previous infections. They essentially remain hidden and persist in those areas.
After finally learning her diagnosis in December, Jenny began a “heavy duty mold protocol.”
“I started in January,” she explained. “I’m in month three. I’ll probably have to go a year of it.”
Her treatment plan is quite comprehensive and includes a nasal spray, around a hundred different supplements, and a therapy called extracorporeal blood oxygenation and ozonation (EBOO). EBOO involves removing blood, purifying it with oxygen and ozone, and then returning it to the body.
Although Jenny’s condition requires a lot of treatment, she’s simply grateful to understand what’s been happening. She explained that getting a diagnosis brought her relief, as she finally knew the reason behind her symptoms.
Jenny had a difficult six months recovering from a series of infections that started with a problem from a root canal last year. She described it as a very tough time.

She remembered that the initial cleaning wasn’t thorough enough. Some infection remained, and bone was grafted over it, which unfortunately led to an infection developing in her jawbone a few months later.
And later, it spread to her eyes.
She explained that she’s had eight surgeries and recently noticed a growth on her eye. It looked like a really bad pimple—almost like a pus-filled eraser top. She questioned what it was, but doctors told her she wasn’t checking her eyes closely enough, which she strongly disagreed with. She had it surgically removed, but unfortunately, it grew back just four weeks later.
Luckily, Jenny’s longtime doctor finally came through for her.
My doctor, who practices functional medicine, was surprised by my good health. She said, ‘You’re actually my healthiest patient!’ Then she decided we needed to investigate further and suggested testing me for mold exposure.

She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.
She explained that growing up, many girls are taught to expect period pain and to accept it as a normal part of womanhood. This often leads to women dealing with a common issue in silence and without support.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she’d been hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a single squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its downsides, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting on interviews, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome, a condition often linked to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She wouldn’t have known about the condition without the online scrutiny. Thankfully, doctors determined she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, which she called “the greatest news imaginable.” She shared this positive update in a February 2024 newsletter, relieved to be healthy.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly began to have stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although these symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital for tests. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), often called a mini-stroke. Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to travel to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that while the situation was frightening and unexpected, he was going to be okay and she was grateful he was fine.

In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he suffered a severe headache one day while in Atlanta. Before he could take aspirin, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next twenty days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, became concerned and took him to the hospital. There, they discovered he had a brain bleed that resulted in a stroke.
After surgery, twenty days later, on May 4th, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the support he received, saying, “I appreciate every prayer, because I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running in the first challenge of the NBC competition show.
She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. After that, she saw light, which led her to realize she had died that day.
She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where your body essentially starts to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, bravely shared her health struggles in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker titled “A Battle for My Life.” While filming the show, she experienced a sudden, severe headache while at the gym. She described feeling violently ill and realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. It was determined this was caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering nonsensical words.
Though the initial surgery was successful enough for her to be discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second, more invasive surgery. This time, doctors had to access her brain directly through her skull. She recalled waking up from that surgery in immense pain, and learning her life was in danger if they didn’t operate again.
Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Her hospital stay ended up being longer than expected due to other health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, she was also dealing with complications from lupus and kidney problems.
Fortunately, Cori is now recovering well. “I’m doing great,” she said. She’s been working to regain some motor skills, but is otherwise doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with her health throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, debilitating fatigue, and constant stomach pain. She saw many doctors but received conflicting diagnoses.
Drawing on her background in herbalism and holistic health, Shailene sought answers from both traditional doctors and alternative healers, hoping to find relief and understand what was happening to her body.
The search for a solution took ten years. During that time, her physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and deeper issues with body image and self-identity. She grappled with feeling safe and comfortable in her own body.
Ultimately, Shailene’s health improved, and her physical symptoms resolved. She is now healthy and happy to share that she has overcome these challenges.
