The fifth and last season of The Boys will premiere on Prime Video on April 8th. The show is building towards a huge finale, with the danger higher than ever as Homelander gains power. While the animated spin-off The Boys Presents: Diabolical didn’t quite succeed, the live-action series Gen V has been a hit, and its storyline might connect to the final season of The Boys. One thing fans can definitely look forward to is more of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, before he gets his own spin-off series.
Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, debuted in Season 3 of The Boys as a twisted take on Captain America. The show later revealed he’s Homelander’s father, creating dramatic tension and high stakes. While Soldier Boy will continue to be a major character in Season 5 of The Boys, he’s also getting his own prequel series, Vought Rising. This new show will explore Soldier Boy’s prime years in the 1950s and will bring back Aya Cash as Stormfront (Clara Vought). Although Vought Rising doesn’t have a release date yet, Jensen Ackles has hinted that the spin-off has a promising future.
In an interview with Collider, Jared Padalecki was asked if Vought Rising was initially planned as just one season, with the studio holding off on future episodes until they saw how well it did. Padalecki, who plays Soldier Boy, clarified that wasn’t the case, explaining that the spin-off series was always meant to have multiple seasons.
The plan is definitely to create several seasons of the show. When they first described the idea – a prequel set in the 1950s featuring Soldier Boy – I immediately loved it and said yes. It was always intended to be a long-running series.
Details about the upcoming series Vought Rising are still mostly secret, but it’s known to center around Soldier Boy and Clar Vought investigating a murder in the early years of the Vought corporation. The show will take place in the 1950s and, according to Jensen Ackles, will maintain the same bold and controversial style as The Boys. Season 5 of The Boys might give viewers more clues about Soldier Boy’s history, and Ackles has confirmed that this won’t be the out-of-place character fans are used to—in Vought Rising, he’s the one in charge.
The show will feel similar to The Boys in terms of its structure, because we’re building on what worked well before, but with a fresh take as a period piece set in the 1950s. From my perspective, playing Soldier Boy is interesting because we’re used to seeing him as a modern character. However, this version is more of a classic hero trying to navigate a very different world, making him feel like a bit of an outsider.
We’re finally seeing him thrive in his natural habitat, where he feels most comfortable and in control. It’s clear he’s a leader. The story also reveals the experiences that shaped him into the person he is today, giving us a deeper understanding of his past.
We’ll likely learn more about the Vought Rising series after Season 5 of The Boys premieres on Prime Video in April. While a release date hasn’t been announced, some fans speculate the prequel could arrive later in 2026, and the Season 5 finale of The Boys might offer a first look. Following the success of Gen V’s second season and with the final season of The Boys generating a lot of buzz, Vought Rising is expected to gain significant attention as more details are revealed.
