After Prime Video cancelled the action series , the lead actor and the show’s creator have both spoken out. The creator also revealed what happened to a character whose fate was left uncertain at the end of the season. is the latest show to be cancelled by the streaming service, along with , and the show’s star quickly shared his disappointment with the news.
I was really struck by something Jared Padalecki recently shared on Instagram. He was talking about how ‘Supernatural’ ended, and he pointed out that even if you do everything ‘right’ – check all the boxes, meet all the expectations – there’s still a chance something can get canceled. It really made me think!
Just wanted to let you all know that Countdown won’t be back for another season – Amazon has decided not to renew it, which is disappointing. I really enjoyed working on that show and had a fantastic time with everyone involved. A big thanks to Derek Haas for creating such great characters, and to Amazon for giving us the chance. Sometimes, even when you do everything right, things don’t work out – that’s just how the industry is. So, that’s it for Mark Meachum. I’m grateful for the experience, and I hope to see you all on another project in the future.

It’s incredibly frustrating when a TV show ends before it’s supposed to, leaving major plot points hanging. That’s exactly what happened with *Countdown*, where the last episode felt more like a setup for what was supposed to come next for Mark Meachum. The show’s creator, Haas, briefly explained how one of those unresolved storylines would have played out, knowing fans wouldn’t get to see it on screen. He shared this resolution in a short statement after the cancellation was announced.
Big thanks to Amazon Prime and everyone involved in making this season of Countdown! It was a blast to film, and just a little spoiler: Oliveras survived!
The cancellation of *Countdown* came as a surprise to many viewers, and likely to the show’s stars, Jared Haas and Jensen Ackles, as well as the entire production team. Despite consistently ranking among the top 10 shows on Amazon’s U.S. streaming platform since its release—and remaining on the chart even after the final episode—Amazon has decided not to renew the series. It appears viewership outside the U.S. wasn’t strong enough to warrant another season.
Jared Padalecki fans can still see Ackles on Prime Video, as he’s scheduled to appear in Season 5 of *The Boys* and the new series *Vought Rising*. Regarding *Countdown*, the mixed reviews suggest cancellation might have been the best decision. While we’ll never know if a second season could have improved the show, at least we now know what happens to Oliveras’ character, which is a small comfort for viewers who were invested in the first season.
