In a recent conversation, Steve Berry, who used to work alongside Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, described Clarkson as quite the attention-seeker. However, this statement doesn’t diminish Berry’s admiration and past camaraderie with Clarkson.
During an interview with The Telegraph, Berry characterized Clarkson as having a strong ego. Despite their six-year professional relationship, they did not develop a friendship, yet Berry expressed respect for him.
Berry clarified, “I’ve made it clear I don’t care for him, but I hold him in high regard.” He added that he thought Richard Hammond, James May, and Clarkson left the show at the perfect moment when they parted ways with the series in 2015.
Following their departure from the BBC series in 2019, their roles were taken over by Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris, and Paddy McGuinness. However, the show came to an end due to Freddie Flintoff’s crash that resulted in severe, life-altering injuries.

After departing from their BBC show, Clarkson, Hammond, and May found success with Amazon’s The Grand Tour. This popular program concluded its run in the previous year.
The trio – James, Richard, and Jezza (Clarkson) – are not alike in rank. Among them, Jezza holds the position of leadership within their group.
In everyday life, Clarkson is more subdued than his on-screen personality might suggest. To put it another way, while he’s not as flamboyant off-camera as he appears on TV, there’s still a hint of his larger-than-life persona in him.
As a movie buff, I’d put it this way: There was a definite history of tension between us two, yet I must admit that one time, Clarkson attempted to engage me in conversation during a car exhibition.
Clarkson proposed, “Berry, even though it’s no secret that we don’t get along, I’ll treat you to a drink over there and let’s pretend we have mutual admiration instead.
