Jeremy O. Harris is facing a new legal battle.
Actor Thomas Roche, known for his role as Grégory Elliot Duprée in Emily in Paris, was arrested in Japan last month on suspicion of trying to bring illegal drugs into the country, Reuters reported on December 4th, citing local authorities.
Harris has been held by authorities since November 16th, after arriving at the Okinawa airport in Japan with ecstasy in his luggage, according to the Tomigusuku police, who are responsible for airport security. They shared this information with The New York Times.
Authorities discovered 780 milligrams of Ecstasy, a hallucinogenic drug also called MDMA, in the passenger’s carry-on bag, according to reports.
Harris was arrested for allegedly breaking the law against bringing drugs into the country, but it’s not yet known if he’s been formally charged with a crime or if he admitted to any wrongdoing, reports The New York Times.
TopMob News reached out to a rep for Harris and the Tomigusuku police but has not heard back.
Jeremy Harris first gained widespread recognition in 2018 with his writing and production of the off-Broadway play, Slave Play. The play was incredibly successful, moving to Broadway in 2019 and earning him twelve Tony Award nominations in 2020.
Since then, Harris has written films like Zola (2020) and Erupcja (2025), which stars Charli XCX. He’s also appeared as a recurring character on Emily in Paris and has been in shows like the new Gossip Girl and the film The Sweet East.

Even with his recent success, Harris says he’s still adjusting to life in Hollywood.
He recently told Vanity Fair that right now, he feels like his only asset is being known for having good taste. He described it as being part of an exclusive club – once you’re accepted, you’re in for good.
