Hollywood is mourning the loss of one of their own.
Jerry Adler, renowned for his performances in ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘The Good Wife’, passed away on August 23rd, as reported by his obituary. He was 96 years old.
Directly following the heartbreaking announcement, Frank J. Reilly, a dear friend of Adler’s, took to social media to express an emotional tribute in honor of the departed actor.
My friend Jerry Adler, the remarkable actor, passed away today at 96 years old,” Reilly posted on X, accompanied by several nostalgic photos of Adler. “You might recognize him from one of his timeless roles or numerous guest appearances. It’s impressive that he didn’t start acting until he was 65.
In fact, he began his career backstage on various Broadway shows, one of them being the first run of “My Fair Lady” in 1956, which was staged in New York.
In simpler terms, it wasn’t until 1991 that he first appeared on screen in the series “Brooklyn Bridge,” and it took him eight more years to land his breakout role as Herman “Hesh” Rabkin in “The Sopranos.
In a heartfelt tribute, I – a grateful collaborator who shared the screen with him as Silvio Dante in the esteemed HBO series, The Sopranos – wrote on August 24: “Rest In Peace, Jerry Adler. It was an immense privilege to work alongside you. May your journey be peaceful, my dear friend.
After the conclusion of the renowned HBO series in 2007, Adler landed another significant role in The Good Wife and its subsequent series, The Good Fight. Notably, the executive producer of both shows, Robert King, took time to express his thoughts about how remarkable an actor Adler truly was.
Jerry Adler passed away yesterday,” King stated on August 24. “At first, we planned to have him for just one episode of ‘The Good Wife,’ but his hilarious diner outburst (‘I said ice cream, you idiotic woman’) made such an impression that he returned for six years on ‘The Good Wife’ and three years on ‘The Good Fight.’ One of our most cherished creative partners.
In the span of his acting career, Adler, who is mourned by his wife Joan Laxman, was instrumental in Woody Allen’s “Manhattan Murder Mystery” and also took up significant roles in various other series such as “Alright Already,” “Hudson Street,” and “Rescue Me.
In 2017, Adler told the Connecticut Post something intriguing: “Working behind the scenes for your entire career means people don’t know you or even recognize your name. Yet, once you appear on TV, suddenly you’re famous and everyone recognizes your face. It’s really bizarre.
